    Throttle body by-pass...

Finally got around to installing this, had the kit for atleast a year, seemed to really make a difference; I just want to know if it is legit for just in my mind...

U have done it good mod but Ported maf is the most Hp free mod that I have done. You can really tell the difference when I did that one.

Its really not much gain, if any at all. But its still a "free" mod and something worthwhile to do. It definately does not hurt to do it. If you talk to any professional tuner or anyone that has a good knowledge on the LS1's, they will tell you not to touch the stock MAF. Porting the stock MAF is a very bad idea IMO and in lots of other people's mind as well.

    Maf

I punched out the honeycomb mesh in the MAF long ago, but that was it.

I ported and de-screened the MAF on me car shortly after I first bought it and there has been no codes. Just take your time porting, do it right and re-install the MAF carefully and correctly making sure that you don't disrupt the little wires inside it, make sure that all of the bolts are tight and all connected items are connected properly and tight. You should be okey with the porting of the MAF mod.

    In over 6 years...

after punching out the screen, no codes either. BUT take your time in removing the screen, and yes, no touch the probes.

I believe it helps contribute to overall hp when done with the rest of the free mods if your car is tuned to run at a colder tempature than stock. My car isn't so I've never done it. But thats a topic for another debate. Check out VINCI Performances site.Good Reading Material

I have had NO ILL EFFECTS in cold weather with the TB bypass. Over the years, we have had some winter mornings that was down to 5 degrees. The car started as easily as it does on a warmer morning and continued to run just fine. As I stated, I have had no ill effects from the TB bypass mod. I do know that once the engine warms up, due to the TB bypass, the air entering that good ole LS-1 engine is a lot cooler, and cooler air makes more horsepower.

Heard of many people doing it in extremely cold temps, no probs. Relax. Only thing you'll probably notice is a small amount of extra time to warm your car up.

I dunno, maybe eBay? It's just a double sided hose barb and some fuel line. I got the parts from Home Depot...

Local hardware store has everything you need...

I bought my kit off ebay for $12.00 with shipping and piss-poor installation instructions, told me to "connect the hose from radiator to the upper left hose of throttle body", that line is a breather line for the passenger bank of engine. The correct line is on the bottom of the throttle body on the drivers side. 2 hose clamps and a 3/8" double ended hose connecter and 2 vaccum caps is all you need; like I said it realy made the throttle response quicker, I think?!

Yeah there should be NO bad side effects to doing the bypass.

But on all the talk about the MAF porting.......NO DON'T DO IT!!
Unless you plane on having a good tuner go back in and re doing the maf tables it will trough it way out of calibration. It is a VERY precise metering device that must be reprogrammed if you change the metering area. Now at the same time thats not to say that someone felt a gain. That would be due to the car needing a good tune anyways. It won't meter correctly if modified.
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

I did the TB bypass http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=13 . Track results http://www.bmrfabrication.com/tb-dyno.htm . This is not a huge power mod, but does add power. It's cheap enough, and every HP counts. There are people running this mod in northern states with heavy snow without any problems that have posted in the forums.
