add in a flush, filter and recharge. Ask about those prices

And why he's doing all that make sure he checks the inline filter. If it's not changed it will clog or break and let any metal shavings past it and you'll be right back here.

Are you sure all that is bad? There's a pressure switch, a fuse and a relay for the AC.

Is your compressor engaging? If not, it could be because the fuse is blown, bad relay or the freon is low which causes the pressure switch to not engage the clutch to kick in the AC compressor.

I would check all that before dropping any coin. You can also by-pass the pressure switch to see if the compressor kicks on.

Dye make sure nothing is leaking. My a/c is leaking in the middle of the compressor and the hose is rubbing the metal.

If the freon level is low, the pressure switch won't engage the AC clutch for the compressor to kick on. This prevents the compressor from burning up. At least this is how I understand it to work.

Best to just buy it new.

Our AC compressor started knocking on the camaro. I bought a new AC Delco compressor (100,000 mile warranty).

When you crack open the AC system it's best to buy a new Accumulator/Dryer. So I bought a new Ac delco piece for that, and I also pulled the Orifice Tube (or filter some call it) because once something goes wrong in the system (namely the compressor) it will pass trash, metal particles throughout the system. That has to be cleaned out or the new compressor won't last long. My compressor knocked for about 30 minutes before I stopped using it and my orifice was already packed full of crap (I have a pic of it, hang on).

As a matter of fact, the GM warranty on the new compressor is only honored if you show that the orifice tube was replaced and the system flushed of debri.

I pulled those lines and flushed them, reinstalled with a new orifice tube (they only cost $1) sucked the system down and recharged. Ice cold and should be good for another 100,000

Here is what my orifice tube looked like after 30 minutes of the compressor knocking. I suspect the compressor was probably already passing trash before the knock became audible. In any event, make sure this is changed. They only cost a buck and as you can see, it does it's job to keep garbage out of the accumulator.
