    TB Question

I found this ebay 90mm throttlebody and they list it as a universal TB but say it fits a ls1. My question is from looking at it do you guys think it will fit? To me something doesn't look right but maybe I am imagining things.

    Here's the TB:

im sure it would work but its a waste of money if you still have a stock maf sensor because the stock is only 75mm you wouldnt be getting the potential and would prollyhave to tune it if you got a maf big enough to get all that air

if it doesnt fit you can return it...youd be out $25 to return it but better than the whole 100 or more if you got a used one from an independent person that you couldnt return it to and im sure if you told them it didnt fit they may wave the restocking fee

I still have the stock MAF but I am going to get an aftermarket one just not sure which one to get yet because I hear some of them gives you problems even with a tune. So it won't be a waste of money, I am just getting the TB first.

ive got an 85mm delco on mine pretty sure it came off a chevy 3/4 ton im not tuned yet and im not having any problems with it but if you go that route like i did youll have to get anadapter for it because the iat sensor is built in and your 3 prong plug wont work on it i picked one up for like $15 but it doesnt make the iat part work on the maf sensor yours will still be on the lid

I've looked @ those units myself.. As long as it's got bearings instead of bushings for the metering/throttle rod it should be ok and the butter fly fits in it's bore correctly imho.. As the other poster stated you could always return it.. I opted to construct my own TB from an existing unit for my project..

I've seen ebay ported ones too and I asked them what they are ported to and they said that it is still the stock size just there is nothing in the way to hinder air flow. Back to the maf real quick, is it legal to delete the MAF? Since I see no reason to pay a couple hundred for a MAF. I mean I could always pop the stocker back on when it is emissions time. I would imagine deleting the MAF would throw the SES light though. Would a SD tune fix that?

It would throw a light and mess with air fuel mixture not sure if a tune would take care of it or not... I bought mine used w a geanatelli lid and k&n filter all for 200 but I pulled another one off a wrecked truck at work I think it's at my moms house still I'll look next time I'm there but that'll prolly be not this coming weekend but next if I do still have it I'll let you have it for 50 plus shipping

That ebay TB will definitely not fit on an ls1/ls6 intake. Don't waste your time/money buying it and trying to make it fit as it looks like a POS anyways. Also LEAVE YOUR STOCK MAF ALONE. Changing it will only make your car run worse and harder to tune. You could technically remove your MAF and have the car tuned for Speed Density, but if your car is relatively stock there is really no point. At this point just port your stocker/ buy a ported stocker and spend money on other things that will actually make the car faster.

PS sorry if that was abrasive, ive just seen a lot of misinformation being posted here latley. figured id make a post.

Tons of good info in this thread read through it carefully. Although i dont agree with everything in there it is a pretty good guide/discussion of what to do when modding these cars.

No worries. I already decided not to buy it since it doesn't look like it will fit. But with a speed density tune will that remove the codes all together? Not just making it so they don't show, and would it be legal and pass emissions? Yes my car is relatively stock but I am buying a new intake manifold but I don't see the point if the maf and tb are still stock diameters. I mean yes if I port them more air will go through but I won't be getting as much air if I get ones that are the same as my new intake manifold.

If you have no MAF, you need to be tuned for SD I'm pretty sure. MAF gives you a lot more flexibility since it uses actual metered air instead of tabulating it. SD is usually used in high horsepower applications.

And ob1 cars. least in early GM v6 cars My TDC was/is a speed density engine up till about '93-94.. My stand alone will also be setup for SD as well..

Is there anyway to still have the MAF sensor but just have a 90mm silicone tube or something that runs from the lid to the throttle body? Since I feel it is ridiculous to pay 400 or 500 for a MAF. I know I should stick with the stocker but I plan to have some serious mods down the road so I might as well do it now.

I have a jantzer 95mm TB and im going to run it with a 4" maf and 96mm PP intake ( I don't have the stuff on the car yet). I'll put it on when I do the cam and the p@p 243's. I heard that all that stuff is hard to tune but I could care less because it's not my problem! who ever I have tune it will have to deal with it lol

a SD tune uses the MAP sensor instead of the MAF sensor allowing you to remove the MAF all together. You will have no CEL but you may not pass a visual inspection depending on your states emissions laws. As stated this method of tuning allows for better idle/drive ability on cars with large cams. There really is no benifit to doing so otherwise. FWIW Ive seen people running more than 500HP through the stock MAF.

If you have any more questions PM Steve at TunedByFrost one of our site sponsors. Im sure he knows much more about the Pros/Cons of SD tuning than me.
