I have a friend with an 02 ss and he was wandering how restrictive is the stock catback exhaust? Cause he was wanting to put headers and ORY without having to get a new catback. Would would this setup sound like and would he be better off just getting a new catback with the headers and ORY?

I would say do the whole thing. Best analogie is like taking a small straw and replacing it with a big one but the hole they both go to is the same size. Even if the larger is capable of getting more flow it can only get as much through as it's smallest flow point. Stock exhaust though compared to aftermarket is no comparison.

NO...do not replace is till you find out what he has. A ss could either have slp dual/dual exhaust....or the stock z28 exhaust. look on the passenger side door, if it lists exhaust as one of the slp options keep it. It flows really well and is VERY quiet.

If he's strapped for money just get the aluminized magnaflow muffler and weld it in....or better yet get a cheap cut-out put in

Cutout sounds like a good option for him. He wants it really loud.
