SLP Headers / Y-pipe...Worth it?
I got an '02 Z28 with a "Hot Cam" installed in it (that's what the guy told me when I bought the car). This thing needs and exhaust in a bad way...
I am gonna go with the Magnaflow Cat Back system unless I hear otherwise. I want to know if the SLP Long Tube Headers and Y-pipe kit is worth the $900 price tag? And on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the toughest), how hard to install. I am a mechanic and should have all the tools needed, but I am used to working on 70-80's camaros, not 02's!
Let me know,
Thanks,
Nut

SLP headers hang low so if you plan on lowing the car you might want to look at a different brand. SLP headers are a 6 or 7 to install if you have a lift. I’ve found its easiest to put the car up on a lift and loosen the K member and motor mounts and then install the headers from underneath. With the K member and motor mounts loose you can with a tranny jack move the motor from side to side given yourself room to install the headers. For catbacks I’ve had many magnaflows and they have anyways been great products. I personally have Random Techologys catback on my SS and really like it. RTs catback is a little cheaper then the Magnaflow too.

Thanks for the input...
I have no plans to lower the car and I'm gonna use my buddies lift to help in hanging the parts.
I'm gonna order these things next week, so if anyone has anymore input, please let me know.
Thanks,
Nut

Pacesetters, Stainless Works, Kooks or QTP, Ive heard way too many stories about scraping with the headers on stock height.

Headers scrape no matter what car they are on. The only vehicle I have that they don't scrape on is my 1984 K10 w/ 6" Lift on 35's. I'm not worried about scrapes, I just want the torque output. Thanks for your input, but I really just want to know if people are seeing the power gains out of them.

Never hit my Kooks on my lowered Trans Am.
Avoid SLP. Overpriced, and their claims are BLOATED!
I have heard they finally updated the design of their longtubes. Not sure about the new ones...but I had the older design and they were crap.
One year of being on the car, and they started rusting. This car is a fair weather car ONLY!
My Kooks have been on the car over 2 years now, and look great. No rust. Roughly the same price as well.
Pacesetters are the good lower priced option. Kooks are what I would go with if the money is there.

i would stay away from slps lts. they hang horribly low and are a pain in the ass to install. save a couple hundred bucks and headaches and buy some coated pacesetters.

I have the SLP longtubes. My car is lowered they scrape over anything. They are way too expensive. They dont produce any more power/torque than any other brand. Also they do rust rather quick.
Stay the hell away from slp LT's, Im changing mine pretty soon.SLP LT's, SLP High Flow Cats, 3" Flowmaster CB, Comp Cam, SLP Lid, LS6 Intake, BBK 80mm TB, SFC, Ram Air HO Hood, Lowered, Torq Thrust II's

Do coated Pacesetters rust? I was thinking about getting some instead of a stainless set but only if they doent rust.

Instead of the Magnaflow cat back, I'd get the Bassani TD setup. I saw a comparison and it said it made 15hp OVER than Borla adjustable system.

They should have it on Bassani's website, Ebay, LMPerformance has it I think, and so on.
