If they are gonna be tuning your car car on the dyno a hypertech ain't gonna do it. They better be using LS1 edit or something like that.

Put the Hooker LT and ORY on today, took 5 hours. The fit is great. Hardly lost any ground clearance. Now I am thinking about another muffler, the Ravin was deep sounding before but now it is raspy when I am on it. Cruising is just as quiet as before, tho. Still thinking about the cut-out. The car sure sounded mean with the open headers!

yeah slp claims...what 40hp off the top of my head?...the gains are not rwhp..you'll prob gain round 20-28rwhp...also slp headers are the biggest pain in the ass to install

My SLP headers came off the car no problem.

Not sure about install. Installed the Kooks on the motor when it was out of the car.
Stock GM gaskets are the best in my opinion.

Think it sounds mean on open headers??? Try a large cammed open header 402.
Yeah...with the cutouts open it is a little crazy.

I do know about large cammed motors. Once I drove an hour home from the drag strip with my 406 Pontiac 4-spd 1967 Firebird open headers. After my ears were ringing for 2 days I said never again........but it was a lot of fun

I had a too big hydraulic cam in that thing, but sure sounded mean. Only ran good when I was flooring it with the Holley 750 dbl pump.

Screw a Dyno tune. If you got the time and a laptop go for HPTuners. 500 bucks and you can mess around with it yourself. They say you can get better streetability from them too.

Not safe unless you know what you are doing.
It takes one little thing to lean your car out too much and pop a piston.

I am still checking which way to go with my tune. I am leaning towards a Predator. I don't have a laptop. I guess I need to get more info on how the dyno shop I visited does thier tunes Do you people out there in cyberspace know if I can bring my own Predator to a dyno tune shop and they use it? Sounds like that place I went to does something like that. Why can't I just use the Predator to tune it be watching KR. One of LS1 tech forums has a good write up on how to do it that way. I know it won't be as good as a dyno tune, but maybe 80-90%? Something else I am looking at is a wide band O2 system, but not sure yet about the cost. Any more ideas, people?
    Thanks!

how much did the Hooker LT and ORY cost you? and where did you get them? and is a tune needed after the LTs and ORY even or did i miss somethin else you had done. i know it will help to get it tuned but if there are more mods to come why not wait a little long?

I spent $840 for my Hooker LT ceramic coated tuned length headers and the ORY (3"). I am very happy with the fit, I think I even gained ground clearance vs. my OE Y-pipe. Got this stuff from Jeg's. I understand the Pacesetters are not a tuned length header.

Tuned length is the head pipes are at least equal length. Some are optimized for particular set-ups, for a very specific situation. Gives more uniform power, or a better power band. I do know for sure it is better than not having tuned length. Still, tho, long tubes are far superior to shorties, whether they are tuned length or not. With LT and ORY, you can expect 20 to 40 HP, with a PCM tune.

I have not had a tune yet.........I am going away for Thanksgiving, down to Kentucky, I won't be back until next week. Where we are going, they don't believe in computers so I will be bored. Also, we're driving the Jeep.

Also, regarding the Pacesetters. I have read a lot of good things here about those. So, when I do tune it I am still deciding to dyno, or Predator, or I might have a friend in our local Firebird club with a laptop and LS1 edit. I need to contact that person and talk. He has a mostly stock 99 A4 2.73 that runs 13.1x. He is a computer geek, so I am 99% sure he does some tuning on his car that way.
