Yes, the Volant is a CAI. They'll work best on Firehawks and WS6s. Not as good on standard Firebirds, Camaros and Camaro SSs. I love my Volant, but if I had an F-body other than my WS6, I'd go with a lid. Those clear ones are pretty!

if you sell it i am intrested..i actually have a fully functional ram air hood. box seals up into the hood...so i think a volant would be great for my set up.

what did you have to do to make your box seal up?

It's like nytmare said back at the top of the thread, with a ws6 or ram air type hood, the volant would definately pick up alot more fresh air. But even with the non ram air hood, there is still fresh(not directed,or ram) air that enters at the front of the hood. It is just not exactly directed right at the filter opening. Volant does consider thier intake a cold air, because the box is made to seal against the underside of the hood and block off engine heat.

Volant also claims around 10hp increase. So maybe we can more op's from people who have either the fast, slp design or volant and see what they like and don't like about the one they have???

Personally, I have a lid for my WS6 and I'm going to be removing the baffles from the hood nostrils and sealing my hood to the airbox. With FRA and a sealed hood, I think that will gain some good hp numbers. If anyone is interested on how to remove the baffles here is a link to show you how to do it correctly. http://www.geocities.com/brian98ramair/Baffle.html

Something else I thought of on the intake decision delima. What about noise, I have the K&N cold air on my truck, and it makes a groaning noise when under a load past 1/4 throttle or so. It gets annoying when I head up to the mountains cause I am constantly in the throttle going long grades.

So does the volant do the same thing on the firebirds????

Good point, I think that is what you and I are trying to see comparisons on, is the lids vs volant.

I just about have myself talked into the Volant. It has to flow pretty good just by the design, and............it does look cool when you open the hood. Who knows, maybe a firehawk/ram air type hood down the road to compliment it????
