rip the whole maf meter out and replace the pipe, your car will not run properly until you can find someone to do reprogram of your pcm.

here in australia they use ls1edit and it is called a mafless tune with a full exhaust i went from 285kw to 321kw at the flywheel so the gains (36kw)are greater than 3-4hp if done properly, im sure someone in the states is capable of doing this if they have the software.

so there are bennefits to removing it.

pm me and i'll email you the dyno sheet if anyone interested

That's why we use an air filter.

And also your lid isn't sealed that's why you're getting all that crap on your MAF screen.

From what i'v heard the only reason the screen was put in place was too straighten out airflow, since we have a straight intake we dont need the whole screen deal. Starting in 02 corvettes didnt even come with the screen.
I pulled mine and so far so good.

the shift pressure tables on an a4 are determined from the MAF.. You need a tune if it is going to work well and produce good results. bottom line, dont do it, you do not need it.

I've been running a descreened MAF on my car for 5 years, and haven't had any problems. Usually I tell people that there is no point in descreening it unless you're spraying a dry shot, but it's up to you.

Air intake cleaner from Autozone. Most cans say they are sensor safe. I took my screen off about a year ago and not had any problems.

while the oil from a k&n wont mess up the car per se, it will cover the filaments on the maf and screw up the readings causing you to run lean usually. Now i run a paper filter. I have not removed the screen from mine because there's no need to. Ive seen enough dyno's and read enough threads to keep mine in. Its shoot or miss with that mod. most advise against it. I think the only time you should remove it is:
    1. running in sd, but you should take the maf out entierly
    2. running nitrous before or at the maf.
Without tuning, you will run leaner than normal because of the extra unmetered air entering at and past the maf. JMO.

    Cool Screens removed

I've taken the screens out of my 95 Z28, 98 Trans Am and my 03 Corvette. No problems on any after I learned not to soak K&N's with too much oil. Think it is probably a great idea to clean the sensors periodically though. Just put a ram's horn air intake on the C5 and started getting lean bank codes though. Hadn't thought of cleaning the sensors but I'm going to try that real soon. I was convinced that I probably needed higher flow fuel injectors and may go that route anyway but haven't found a thread that addresses that item just yet. I'm sure it must be here somewhere...............
