Ready to do headers and off road Emisssions

It is time. Need to start the serious mods. I have to do emisssions this week, and i have two years before I have to worry about them again. I want to do headers. I have the slp loudmouth catback now. I will need to replace the stock manifolds,pull the cats,install an offroad pipe,(tying into the weld/cut the muffler guy did), replace/or extend o2 sensors, replace plugs while im in there,and send my ECm off to frost to get it done. I plan on putting in the fast 90/90 intake, a cam and heads down the road. I saw the thread on HOW to put in the headers. Great sticky btw. What i need to know is what parts i am going to need. And I am seriously interested in replacing the motor mounts. I have the basic tools, any specialty things I need? You guys have all done this, what headers? what offroad Y? Can i do this?

lots of patience and a curse bucket. some mechanics gloves, back up sockets.. I broke 3. a sawzall, good flashlight, antiseaze, some band-aids, penetrating lube, impact gun, an air ratchet (provided you have a compressor) use a lift if possible... pacestter headers work good, texas speed ORY... and yes you can do it

Its not to bad just plan ahead and spray some PB Blaster on the header bolts a few days in a row or overnight if possible.

If you have the money, then buy Kooks headesr, ORY, Bosch 13111 O2 sensors, TR55 plugs, and MSD wires. Thats about $1300-$1400
Make sure you have a jack that can lift the car high enough to get under it and work. As long as you have a good set of metric wrenches, deep and shallow sockets (1/4" and 3/8" drive), and ratchets. ratchet wrenches make it way easier and faster but it can be done without them.

and live closer to madison. sigh. guess ill do it myself. is there any tricks i need? I found out AFTERWARDS that you need to seperate the bellhousing from the tranny. UGGGH.

If you go to the "right place" all you have to pass is a code check and gas cap pressure check.

As you're OBDII they won't even open the hood.

PM me and I'll tell you which Phoenix smog check station is the best to go to.

No need to touch the bellhousing, The PB blaster comment was a good idea, and use your stock MLS gaskets, the metal ones. The foam ones that come with the headers are garbage. Better off reusing the ones you got.

no, i meant when i changed the clutch. thanks for the tip about the gaskets

Missed that about the clutch
and no problem, forgot to mention, make sure you got band clamps to attach the headers to the y-pipe

If you get Kooks headers, that drivers side header is a major pain to install, but once its in, it fits nicely! I had to remove the cast iron motor mount bracket from the k-member, then slip the header up in there, loosely attach it and then try to reinstall the mount mount while working around the header. Not impossible but not a ton of fun.

No. Well maybe. Theoretically and technically all of them should be the same. I live on the eastside and the one I use is even further east than I currently live (Tempe). I used it when I 1st moved here (I lived in Gilbert at the time). I continue to go there (I have multiple cars) because there is usually no line (depends on day and time) and it's close to my friends shop (gives me an excuse to visit).

I've heard horror stories about other stations from friends. They are supposed to check for things (AIR, EGR [if so equipped], cats, etc) and apparently some stations do while others don't. I'm originally from LA. Smog check there was a bitch.

Where in the Valley do you live? Also, ever heard of the AZFBA? Largest F-body club in the state. http://www.azfba.com/

Also, I'd rather discuss locations in a less public forum. You never know who's listening in...
