    raspy!!!

    After 2k RMP my exhaust gets really raspy, I just installed new headers and ory. Anyone know why this is, also, alot of times when I start my car I get back fire, anyone know why? I know my exhauts isnt sealing great because I can feel some air coming out of the connecter points, so im getting some sealent for that today, dont know if that will help with the rasp or not, I hope so...

    What catback do you have?, No changing the tips will not change the rasp. A good flowing catback will, ie magnaflow.
    You need to seal the system to get rid of those annoying exhaust leaks and the backfiring issue.
    I would reccomend using band clamps.

    If I get true duel exhaust (X pipe) would that fix it, or do I need new cats?

    I have LT headers,3 inch until the rear end and over it then to the tips. mine is very raspy also... i think the only way to fix this is a muffler. i am not going to put one on because of drag application but once i open my cut outs that are right off the headers....it goes away..so you could just get some cut outs lol

    the backfire is normal.. unspent fuel combusts in the exhaust... all muscle cars shoudl back fire...

    Cats are the best way to get rid of rasp on LS1 cars. Y-pipe and cat-back doesn't make much of a difference if you don't have cats. I had to run with 1 cat for a week after I put the headers in and it still had rasp from the side with no cat. Now with dual cats it sounds much better.

    Dual exhaust just may stop your raspy sound. I have true duals and I have no rasp..

    Your so called "blown" cats are nothing more than an open chamber with nothing inside it. That probably magnifies the raspiness even more. I have some basic 3" carsound cats I bought used. Ask around and you can probably find a pair for $50 or less. Pypes makes a compact 3" cat and Magnaflow also has a compact 3" metallic spun cat(#59959) but the magnaflow may not quiet down the rasp as much as a longer cat.
