    Quick catalytic convertor question

2001 ws6 m6, my passenger side cat is clogged so I am going to replace both with Carsound high-flow cats, question----on stock application I just need 2.5" in/out and just cut off old one and clamp new one in?

    Thanks

I've been working in exhaust shops and what we would do there is weld it in-clamps are not considered strong enough in that application. This would involve removing the Y-pipe and cutting the convertors out -putting it back in place-then tacking things back together ,removing again and finish welding.I know this sounds like a lot of hassle but trying to do it any other way will involve more work or less than satisfactory results.Convertors generate alot of heat and welding is the only thing that will keep it together with the amount of vibration also.I would give it a shot if you have moderately good MIG welding skills.Otherwise I would pay someone to do it right.

Ok yeah weld in you say, I see your point here, so 2.5 in and out is fine right? I would have dealer do it but no codes thrown

    thanks

How do you weld on the cats with stock manifolds? I just put on some random tech cats and they bolt-on like the factory cats do....welded the y-pipe to the catback though.
