possible to use a 99-02 Fuel pump in a 98 tank??

I just purchased a Walbro FP for the 99-02 from a sponser, its the direct fit for a 99-02 and I mistakenly purchased the wrong one, I have a 98 LS1 which has the metal tank. My question is
can the 99-02 FP be used on a 98, the pics on the site looks like the same pump, i contacted the seller and they say that both kits have the same pump, but that it is not a 'Direct fit' for the 98. Id rather not have to wait and send it back if i can use it.

send it back.....the 99-02's use a bucket. You could probably make it work but for the money and time you're gonna spend on replacing it I would do it right the first time. Lots of threads out there where people do the pump and have to tear it all back apart again because they messed something up and that's using the direct replacement. You could be creating a huge headache for yourself trying to make it work.

    Thanks for the reply
The picture on the site shows the same exact pumps for the 99-02 and the 98

    but the 98 pump says

"NOTE: Due to the fact that this kit does NOT utilize the factory venturi system, bucket modifications will be required for this kit to work properly.

Install instructions can be found here:

    http://gonicd.com/intankinstall/intankpumpinstall.html"

so does this mean the 98 does use the bucket system?

This is the kit they suggest

and this is the kit i bought

the 98 does not use the bucket......the tank is baffled on the 98's. This is the part I'd be concerned with:
There is now an intank solution with the proper connection so that the jet pump can be connected and proper factory intended pump operation can be restored.
Like I say, I'm sure you can get it to work but for the money and time I'd rather way 2-3 days and use the correct pump.
