personally, i don't epoxy that section. i've heard a few horror stories of the epoxy cracking and getting sucked into the engine. i've only heard of it happening a few times but for the extra 2hp i don't see the point in risking $3k in damage.

i bought a used ported throttle body to throw on while i ported mine and just in case i messed up, and when i got it the epoxy was cracking and i just didn't trust it. probably wouldn't have ever fallen off but i chiseled it out just to be safe.

basically just try to get rid of the lip, smooth the edges and curves as best you can, angle any flat edges a bit, anything that looks like it'll make the flow of air smoother.

its not so much the porting that makes the difference, its the bump stop mod that really gives you the HP bump. a lot of throttle bodies dont open near 100% so it makes a big difference because now your WOT reads 100% instead of say 87% like it used too.

yea, ive seen that done. how can you check using your TBPS to make sure its exactly at the right percentage/voltage? i read something about that and just need some clarification.

When I did mine I just smoothed it out as best I could and just cleaned up the sharp edges on the side ports. To do the bump stop mod measure the voltage at the tps under wot at the blue wire. 4.71 will set the code I stopped at 4.68

wait, so you do the voltage check while the engine is running?

I have dyno proof that my ported stock throttle body from TR netted me 0hp.... so, don't waste your money.

No you just have to have the ignition on, not the engine
That way you have power running through to get a reading from the sensor
You read it of the blue wire onthe Throttle positioning sensor

how far apart were dyno runs made? different days or back to back? how many pulls with each?

porting it results mostly in throttle response, however there are dyno results showing gains. if you do it yourself it's free...so, it's not a waste.

they do a razor blade edge and bump stop mod. If I knew as much as I know today. I would have done it myself within 20 min. As far as the dyno results, they were done on different days. however, i've had over 15 dynos. I really didn't see any dif. There was no dif with throttle response either. My lid added throttle response. My catback added hp I could feel. my gsd3s added obvious traction off the line. my headers added no low end torque, but sounded good and probably helped in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

hmm that's very interesting. i won't question your results, however i have seen a few graphs showing 2-8hp. that's probably on the higher side, but i would expect at least something. i noticed throttle response, not really power though.

yeah we cant really question your results with it but maybe you already had a good throttle body to start out with. Ive read that some are a lot worse than others with the whole WOT thing, just means you had a better car to begin with hah.

deffinetly increased my throttle response, i think its getting stuck though, idles a little high wich i dont mind, but as soon as i put it in drive, foot still off the peddle, it starts to go on its own, idleing through second gear up to 1500 rpm's, kinda strange.

I did this mod, bump stop removed, ported and polished. I felt no difference at all even in throttle response. Im sure it might have given me some hp but without doing a before and after dyno comparison couldnt be sure.

I find it hard to believe that those who have appropriately ported & polished the throttle body, modified the bump stop, and smoothed the throttle blade have realized absolutely no performance increase whatsoever, not even in throttle response; unless there are some other underlying issues hindering it. Just my $0.02 worth.
