    Ported MAF ends

Has anyone used any sort of ported maf ends on their car? I've seen them for sale on eBay and FTP but wonder if they are worth the investment.

+1 on what Tater said. The MAF is designed to accurately meter the incoming airflow and any modification that affects its dimensions, such as porting, deblading or descreening, will result in unmetered air entering the engine and a lean condition.

Yea that makes sense Jeff, when I bought my car it had a descreened maf but I was able to acquire one with a screen so now it's screened. I guess it boggles me that Fast Toys sells these maf ends.

Its like a throttle body spacer, just a way for them to make money

Its not unmetered air. It is still passing through the MAF. Unmetered air is air entering after the MAF. What they do is throw off your mass air flow transfer function. This can be corrected with a tune but an aftermarket MAF is useless unless youre making serious power and are pegging the meter.

My MAF however is not ported, or debladed at all. I do not see how you would gain anything by doing this.

I stand corrected. Better explanation is that the MAF has a fixed diameter and internal dimensions with known flow characteristics. It works by heating a small wire that is then cooled by the incoming air. By measuring how much current is required to maintain the temperature of the wire, the MAF can interpolate airflow and send a signal to the PCM. Anything that alters the flow characteristics of the MAF throws off its calibration.
