Poly or OEM motor mounts?
Well the mileage is getting up there on the Camaro. Been thinking about doing motor mounts. Has about 112k on it now I think.
So which do you think the better choice is? I know some guys have gone anywhere to 8-10 seconds in the 1/4 mile on OEM ones, so I'm not really worried about that.
Just wondering which would be better.

I put polys in mine. Car feels a little tighter all around. Could be the placebo effect I guess. But I havent found a downside, besides the install but u get that with either one

you will feel more engine vibrations with polys. After a while they settle in and it very light vibration. Other than that and price polys are the way to go.

my vote to poly's you will feel them more than OEM's but they really tighten up the engine under loads and will help put more power to the wheels instead of twisting up in the engine bay!

Poly engine and stock rubber transmission is how I am going on our car.

I would love to hear some feedback on this as well. I have never been in a f body with poly motor mounts, However other cars Ive ridden in with them vibrated pretty hard at idle. How bad is the vibration in these cars?

its really not that bad i daily drive my car through out the summer you just tend to get use to it i barely realize it anymore! it vibrates more than stock but after seeing how much my engine twisted with stockers compared to the poly's its well worth it IMO!

Ok, now how hard are they to swap out?

It's not fun. It more takes times than anything that is hard to do. Just makes sure to do one side at a time. Oh, and remember which way the mount was in there.
I went with polys on mine when I did headers. Honestly, I had a nasty vibration with the oems; the polys really tightened that up. I hardly have any vibration with the polys.

If takes time but is doable. Remove the Airlid. Disconnect the battery. You have to move the A/C compressor out of the way and hang it by the sway bar. I think I removed the starter as well. Alternator has to come out. Loose the motor mount bolts. The put a piece of 4x4 under the oil pan and lift the motor up slightly until you can remove the motor mounts bolts. Then jack the motor up about 3" to 4". Mark or notice the orientation of the mount on the engine block. Remove the bolts holding the mount to the block. Once the mounts are out you have to grind /drill out the rivets in the clam shells, then pry open the clam shells to remove the oem rubber piece. Once is out scrape the old rubber out and put the new poly mount in the clam shell. Use the new bolts to keep the clam shell together. Reinstall the mount to the block. Slowly lower the engine until you can align one of the main mount bolts and slide it in. Don't tighten it yet. do the other side. It might get tricky to align the 2nd bolt. I used a small pry bar and was able to get it in 2 mins. Some people had to grind the 2nd bolt as a sharp point to drive it in with a hammer. I guess i got lucky. Tighten all the bolts and reinstall the a/c compressor, alternator, starter and airlid back.
It probably took me like 5 hrs to get it done by myself. The engine vibrated alot more with polys at the beggining but I did noticed after a month or so it calm down some. I like the polys so far.Last edited by JayTA98; 07-08-2011 at 04:56 AM.

swaping the engine mounts out is a PITA... but go for poly... i have poly motor and trans mounts and the vibration isn't as bad as most say it is... and if it is vibrating that badly there is other issues with the car or it is cammed and vibration with a cam is normal... depending on hte LSA of the cam the vibration can be different but always noticable...
