Plugging off the EGR on the LS1 intake?

I have an 02 LS1 that came with the actual LS1 intake mani instead of the LS6, so I need to plug off the EGR (or atleast I think that it's the EGR) that sits in the intake mani right next to the TB.

Any quick fixes to this problem? I plan on going with an LS6 intake after awhile, but just to get it running I need to block the hole. Any help or links to a DIY on it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance guys

i assume you're talking about the hole on TOP, right behind the tb? if so GM has a plug for that. has a metal plate w/ gasket thats fits nicely and is held down with the same bolt that would've held the egr in. i think its about $18 if i remember right. cheaper rubber plugs and stuff are around though, depending on your budget.

i thought about those but it made me nervous because there's nothing to prevent it from dropping into the manifold if it came loose from hot/cold expansion or whatever. might never happen, i just felt safer with the other one.

Metal freeze plugs work too, its either 1-3/8" or 1-5/8" I forgot which one...about $1 at your parts store, YMMV.

    my 50cent intake EGR plug:
Take the old EGR line you removed from the intake and use a pipe cutter to cut the mounting plate from the hose at the point shown in the picture (remove rubber gasket first, also your hose may still have the long "dong" on it and look a little different, I had previously trimmed the "dong" off my EGR where it was restricting the intake behind the throttle body)

Once cut it will be loose but still stuck on the hose as shown:

Just snap the hose with your hands or cut it to free the mounting plate:

find a scrap piece of aluminum and cut out a disk to sit in the step of the EGR plate:

    JB weld it in place:

    Reinstall gasket:

reinstall on car with 10MM bolt:

This mod may cost $1.50 if you require a beer to assist in the project

Is this the same plug you use when you upgrade to the ls6?

The LS6 intake doesn't have an opening to block

That is not entirely true, there are some LS6 intakes, all be it rare, that do have the provision for the EGR.

just remove all egr hoses and plugs, follow it down the drivers side under the drivers side of the nose and just take it all out. You will need a PCM reprogram so your check engine light doesn't come on tho and need to cap off the top of the intake (as shown above) if it's a LS1 intake or SLP LS6, also need to cap/block the exhaust egr ports if they are present.

Yes you are right, there are the SLP ones that have the provisions like Orion said
    Thanks for pointing that out
