Painted My LS1 Intake
i got a good deal on a LS1 intake off of a 95 Z28 w/the 98-02 front end/rear tail light conversion & complete LS1 swap a few months back,at first i was going to try to sell the intake, but i dont think too many ppl would be in the market for a used LS1 intake so i decided to have it painted, just to do some under the hood dress up until i can do the LS6 intake swap, the pics dont do too much justice, but it looks 100% better in person......................................
prepping
i sanded it down pretty good i wanted it to be real smooth
it was a little time consuming,i really dont like the preperation part of painting, but im a perfectionist so it will all pay off in the end
i made sure that everything was taped up good where i didnt want paint to go,the tape on the bottom part of the intake would not stick for nothing in the world LoL!
the final results like i said the pics really hide how great this thing looks
i really been dragging my feet on putting this this on 1.because i want it put on professionally 2.im waiting to buy a ported & polished TB

My intake I bought it from a crate engine. Brand new. I think I payed 325 for mine. You take the bottom ribs off the LS6 intake and you don't need to change the coolant pipe. If you are planning to do the LS6 valley cover upgrade in the future you will to change the coolant pipe.

yes that's me. here is the write up i did for the ebrake boot.
http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...e-boot-upgrade
Im going to upgrade it to a leather one. My console is painted and i think the vinyl is causing a chemical reaction with the paint making a goey mess. I aiting to receive the boots. If you don't have a painted console like I do the vinyl one should be perfect.

no, its not a must. the OEM PCV that comes with our cars is crappy. If you are not having vacuum leaks from the PCV or the tubing is not melted then you don't need to do it. I did mine because I wanted to clear the engine bay more and I wanted to see if it helps my idle. My idle got better after i replaced it. I would recommend the upgrade. But it can get pricey. You will need the LS6 coolant pipe and plugs. you have to remove the knock sensors to take the cover out so is not a bad idea to replace them. is not a must but it will save you from having to remove all the intake again if the sensors go bad soon. Depending on the condition of the knock sensor harness you might need a new one. Because i have a 98 I had to get the KS and KS harness since the harness from 98's is not compatible with the rest. My harness broke when I pulled it out so I needed the new one.

looks really sharp, I did the same to my LS6 intake, I'll add pix when I get time on the computer at home, I went with a gunmetal color, that's the color rims I'm going with so I figured i'd carry it into the engine bay. Part of me wishes i'd gone more of a maroon color to make it stand out more, but it came out nice.

Anybody know if you polish the clear coat will the vinyl lettering still stick to FRC's?
