I like mine. The only thing I didn't like is the EGR fitting didn't line up right. Other than that, I like 'em on my LT1.

What is the performance difference between a LT and mid tube header?
Is this a project that could be done at home in the garage w/ the right tools or better to take it to an exhaust shop?

You can do it yourself with simple hand tools and some patience. Some welding and custom fabbing might be required if you want to reuse the stock Y-Pipe or have an aftermarket exhaust that doesn't bolt up directly to the headers.

This is how I explain the difference between mid-lengths and shorties - if you're going to spend the money and time on headers, go with full length, long tube headers. You can eaily see a 10HP difference between mid lengths and LT's on an LS1 motor. Plus LT's sound awesome

I have pacesetters and they're great headers for the money. I would recommend them to anyone. I wasn't very impressed with the Y-pipe and it took me a while before I was able to adjust everything to keep it from banging but I finally got it.

I got the ceramic coated PS too. Down here in texas the coating will last longer. They are GOOD quality imo.

installation can be done in the garage with a few tools, jacks, and jack stands, might take awhile but(mine was about 10 hours) only b/c of tedious work, ive heard that mid tubes dont really give the results that lt's do

I called PaceSetter and asked about the hp/tq numbers. Maximum for the longs is 28 hp and 12 for the shorties. Pacesetter = very honest people imho.

I borrowed a picture from someone that shows why the shorts do not give a huge performance boost: http://i3.tinypic.com/4gs63av.jpg
As the original poster told, LS1s exhale well from the showroom.

Lots of guys here have them and yes I do too. Installation wasn't bad but not as easy as everyone makes you think. I had to Jack the car way up and grind one of the casting blocks on my engine to get the drivers side to slide in without removing the steering linkage. Fit is nice, they tuck up pretty good. The ORY seems to line up real well I do not expect any banging (I took my time and tweaked everything while it was loose so there is good clearance) but I will not know for a while as it is snowing here so I haven't driven around with them. They sound is great with my MS4 cammed engine, ORY and a Borlamouth exhaust.

Actually those provisions are on the headers not on the Y-pipe. If the headers are the race style then they will not have provisions for EGR or AIR. For the AIR you will have to remove the pump and the tubing assosiated with it. If your car is an 98-00 then you will need to get an EGR Blockoff plate for the intake manifold assuming you haven't upgraded to the LS6 intake manifold which does not have EGR provisions.

For AIR Removal this will give you an idea of what to remove

For EGR you can get the block off plates here. They are torwards the bottom of the page.

Also note that you will have to disable the error codes on in the computer. If you are getting the car tuned then they will do that while they tune it, otherwise you will need to find a friend with HPTuners, Tunercat or LS1Edit to do it dor you.
