New oil pan and rear cover

A while back my flexplate bolts wiped out and took the back of my block with them. I tried to patch it but in the end it came down to me needing some new parts. Here is the link of the damage
    http://www.ls1.com/forums/f64/flexplate-carnage-159390/

The school I attend is also the home of a gm technician training school so thankfully I have any special tool that is required on hand.

First the back of my oil pan was indeed cracked all the way through

I kept the motor in the car and supported it with a brace that sat on the strut towers and radiator support, this enabled me to drop the k-member. Thankfully I only unbolted the passenger side and loosened the driver side, this saved me a lot of pain.

    Oil pan just squeeked by

This plastic bit over the crankshaft helps to align the seal and cover

Next this tool mounts to the block and ensures the main cover will be flush with the block and the oil pan.

Oil pan is on! I forgot to show the gasket material but apparently the seam where the covers and the block are attached a small amount of the gasket material is supposed to be applied to prevent any possible leaks

You might be able to see it but I tried to show where some of the gasket material pressed out

I have new plugs and wires that should be installed tomorrow and hopefully when/if she starts everything will be ok. Keep your fingers crossed if all works out the transmission will go back in and hopefully the used one I bought works

j-41479 is supposed to be a 2 piece seal installer tool......the 1st piece goes on like the 1 in your pic.....then the installer screws into that to push the seal down into the cover

Looking a lot better than it did. Nice to have access to the appropriate tools for the job.
