Need new Cats
I need some help. I'm getting codes saying my Cats are bad, so I have to replace them to pass inspection.
Here is the problem: I've been told by several places that there isn't an aftermarket Cat that fits the 2001 V8 T/A's. I ordered a pair from JEGS and the muffler shop said there is no way they'd fit. The only choice is to go OEM which run $300-$400 each.
Thunder Racing suggested replacing full Cat and Y pipe (cheaper than OEM cats) and said that they would fit just fine. They would bolt back up instead of having to be welded and shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone know this for sure or have any other suggestions? Bassani is the brand.

first off, how many miles are on the car?? there is a warranty on cats that is longer than the vehicle warranty. if you want stock, then check with the dealership and see if you still qualify. if not, go with thunders suggestion, but it may or may not pass smog. i dont know for sure.

Close but no cigar
I had the engine replaced at 45,000 miles, but I have 90,000 on the cats. 80k is the requirement, I believe. I searched the threads and found a post almost mirroring mine. A guy replaced the engine. He had engine code of multiple misfire and a bad cat. There was no response on how it ended. I have the same scenario. I think a misfire will cause the cat to go out. I also had fired my O2 sensors from heat (per the dealership).
I'll order the Basanni's and see how it goes. Just worried about the fit. There isn't much room...

My cats were throwing codes at about 80,000 miles.I didnt replace them because I was not losing power or mileage. To pass inspection I put the o2 simulaters from Summit and passed inspection.I now have 187,000 on the car all stock. In NJ they dont put the sniffer in the exhaust pipe if you have o2 sensors before and after the cats.they just plug into your cars computer and the o2 sims say evrything is ok and you pass.
hope this helps if you dont feel like changing the cats.

You should try putting a post up in the parts wanted section. A lot of us ditch the cats when we upgrade our exhaust.
