    NC emissions laws?

Anyone know if NC (specifically Nash County) requires cats, and same thing for cut-outs. Ive been to several NC laws sites but niether clarified either of the mentioned above.

I am pretty sure the cats are forsure, let us know if U find
real proof. I have thought about moving there!

yes cats are required, i thought they were required everywhere by now, if you can make friends with someone who does inspections they can over look the visual part as long as you arent throwing any codes when they hook up to your computer

Cap the cutout and as long as you dont have any 02 codes or SES light you may just luck out...

Hey, Yes Nash requires emissions inspection. Cats are required and cutouts are prohibited. BUT, truth is, just find a mom and pop inspection station and make sure your car is tuned and not throwing codes and you will prolly pass. I just passed with LT's on recently.

Here is the link and the list of counties in NC doing emissions:

    http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_ser...lationsmanual/

"Safety/OBD inspections currently are required in 48 counties: Alamance, Brunswick Buncombe, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Carteret, Catawba, Chatham, Cleveland, Craven, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Gaston, Granville, Guilford, Harnett, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Johnston, Lee, Lenoir, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Moore, Nash, New Hanover, Onslow, Orange, Pitt, Randolph, Robeson, Rockingham, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, Stokes, Surry, Wake, Wayne, Wilkes, Wilson and Union. They do a visual and pull DTC codes in all NC counties. Mine was too low (Stranos) to get on the lift so they skipped the visual lol. But TECHNICALLY all LT's are illegal cause you cannot move cats from their original location according to fed law but most everybody lets that slide as long as you have cats.

I rolled right through in NC (Mt. Holly just outside of Charlotte). SLP LTs and Hi-Flow Cats.

And cops never messed with me at all. I think they liked the old beast!

Cats are required on our cars in pretty much any state. What matters to us is the way that the DMV checks to confirm that we are in compliance with those laws.

In North Carolina, for OBD II cars, they simply plug into the computer to check for codes and it's up to the attendant to do a visual inspection. I live in Georgia now and they do the same. My recommendation would be to cap the cutout and try to find a shop that's willing to "look the other way" with the visual inspection. Try to be as discreet as possible -- rolling up to the shop camming like a freight train might arouse some suspicion.
