Mids only get that close at peak HP across the board LTs have more torque and power. Mids relocate the cats just as LTs do so they will fail any visual inspection in CA. If you are going to spend the $$$ and relocate your cats why get mids? Makes no sense to me whether peak HP is close or not. People get all wrapped up in peak numbers which don't mean squat unless you have a race car. It's HP/TQ across the entire power band that counts most and for that LTs are your best bet.

This is all true but Macs are within a few hp across the board. I didn't really notice any difference swithing from Macs to longtubes as far as power. I'm all for long tubes, they sound better, perform better also but mids have a few advantages like no k member clearance issues and better ground clearance.

There's been some guys make damn good power on mac mids. I think the first choice should always be LT's but if you go with mac's I wouldn't sweat it to much because they make nice power too.

well as long as the peak power is close that is good enough for me my car has plenty of power for daily driving and it's not like my torque curve is like some vtec civic so if they make close to the same power from 4k upwards that is good enough. and i do not autocross or roadrace my car.

i would assume pretty similar to longtubes i cant see too much of a difference. i think the main differences in sounds depends on what is done after the headers like crossover pipe, cats or not, mufflers, resonators ,y pipe or whatever. I do know that aftermarket headers are louder because the metal is thinner.

99ls1fever are you using a h pipe x pipe or none at all?

My Tune was $100 dollars to buy the HPTUNERS Format criedts and then $75.00 an hour for dyno time and it took them about and hour and a half to tune.

Big surprise a bunch of mac haters.

I did a little modification to my macs, ported the primaries because the welds are the worst i've ever seen and then cut off the ball flange. With just bolt ons and a tune no cam or heads I made 358rwhp and 369ft-lbs.

I hear ya. I got a great deal on mine used plus I really did not want any of my exhaust hanging lower than stock. I already had problems with the stock exhaust scraping on speed bumps and inclinded parking lot entrances.

I was going 10mph if that. The truck was doing roughly 40mph. I was pulling out of a parking lot, the truck I hit was behind a big fedex truck that was turning into the parking lot I pulled out and never saw the truck untill it was to late and my whole front end was trashed.

Man alive that looked terriable. Glad you are alright, but that sucks... that car is sick already but to have to rebuild her twice sucks... Good job though on her she is a show stopper

JonB...??? what was your reason for going with mids? Did you get more clearence running with cats? And why not use the mac y- pipe? I'm debating lt's or macs, and just wondering what your reason(s) were for not going lt? Thanks.

Sorry it took so long must have missed this thread
My reason was ground clearance, every where around here has and inclince or declince going into or out of parking lots. Plus there are massive speed bumps everywhere. I think for the most part the exhuaust tuck just as well as stock. I did't go with the mac y-pipe mostly because I alread havd a borla 2.5in y pipe on the car so I decided just to work cats into that. Plus if your looking for high flow cats macs are not what your looking for.

I got them from fred beans like 3 years ago not sure if they still sell them or not. Ebay is a good options as well. Yes I used the 3m double sided tape. Be sure you get the outdoor stuff, when I got my car back from the accident the body shop used some crappy stuff(not sure if it was 3m or not) but I lost one of my emblems on the way home, was kinda pissed. The 3m outdoor holds very stong had the emblems on for over 2 years with no problem.
