Metal protective sleeves for spark plug wires?

Are these really necessary? I'm installing MSD's today...just wondering..

I didn't put them on when I put my MSD wires in. Just make sure you bend the boots away from the hot parts and you will be fine

They are on there from the factory to prevent the stock spark plug wire boots from excessive heat which could cause them to degrade. Its one of those OEM things that ensures the wires will last to 100K without issues for the average consumer.

As long as you have good quality wires it shouldn't be an issue to run it without them on.
