    MAF related Question

Ok so my 2000 WS6 needs some attention. My initial plans for the car were to go with a ported FAST 90/90, LT's, ORY, ported LS6 heads and a mild cam. Right now the car needs a MAF sensor and I dunno if I want to go with an aftermarket or just a stock replacement. The car will be getting the mods somewhere in the spring of 15'. Thoughts?

Stock replacement MAF from GM is now an 85mm plastic housing with an adapter harness. I run one on our car and have had zero issues. It'll get you up to about the 500 hp level without being a restriction.

If you are going to go with a FAST intake I would actually suggest deleting the MAF and going Speed Density as a lot of aftermarket MAFs are hard to tune and cost way more than what it costs for a speed Density Tune. The other option is the GM replacement MAF like Jeff posted about.

I'm not set on the FAST 90/90, I'm going to compare cost between that an an LS6 intake...I know the pros and cons there but I don't wanna argue that in this thread lol...as for the speed density tune I'll have to cross that road when I get to it because when emailing frost about tunes etc..he said clear up the SES light before doing any mods or tuning. So probably just stick to a stock MAF...Was really just curious if an aftermarket one would be any benefit.

If you can get it to tune right there is a benefit to aftermarket MAFs but many have issues tuning them. One thing to note is that frost can do a SD tune with the mail order tune. He did that with mine with no added cost. What size cam are you looking at? Something in the the 23x/23x with low .6xx lift should be fine for a LS6 intake but you may be able to get a really good deal if you wait long enough for a FAST 90. What codes are popping up with the SES light now?

mild cam 23x/23x is what Im looking at and for whatever reason the handheld scanners will not read my car...I take the car to a mechanic who has been working on cars since the beginning of time and his son who works directly for GM and they are telling me MAF sensor needs replaced and the passenger CAT (computer reads with the big 8000 dollar readers but not the ones from orielly or autozone). I would like to find the parts used Im just very particular about this car and I dont want to dive into a 4000 dollar build only to come up short on numbers because I didnt fix an issue at the beginning of the build.

I think I have the passenger side cat from our car still. It has around 20,000 miles on it and is a GM replacement cat installed under warranty. If you are interested, I will go and verify that is the one I still have.

I'll head down to the lower garage after work tonight to ensure that it is in fact the passenger side cat. If so, I will also get some pics and post them. I sold the other one to a site member in AZ around 2 years ago I believe.

I sold the driver side cat for $50, plus shipping via USPS. You can see that in this thread: Cats..what to do?

I must have deleted my PM's though as I cannot find the exchange of messages for that transaction. I have no issue shipping it to you and receiving payment after the fact once postage is known. Payment can be via PayPal or even a check in the mail. Send me a PM if you are interested that includes your name and address and I can probably have it in the mail tomorrow morning.

Replied to PM. The manifold bolts came off easily. I did remove the two (2) studs (and nuts) from the converter so as not to risk them puncturing the box. They will be in a plastic bag packed with the converter, so you may have to dig through to find them.
