Well it depends on what vette your refering too, I mean if your talkin 01 02 ish they came with different block, heads, cam etc. They came with the whole ls6 deal. 01 and 02 ls1's came with the ls6 intake, it was a "easier way for gm too manufacture bc they came with injectors and harness and all that good stuff"

I thought that the only 'vettes that came with ls6 engines were the Z06's?

GM used LS6 blocks in certain 01-02 LS1's with the 241 heads instead of the LS6 243 heads like bene and sunsetorangess said.

    LS1 Heads
    12559853 (1997-98)
    12559853 (1999-00)
    12564241 (2001-03)

    LS6 Head
    12564243 (2001 +)

Here are the different cam specs:
    LS1 Camshaft Specifications

    1998 - 2000 Fbody
    202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
    116 LSA

    2001 - 2002 Fbody
    197/207 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.467" / 0.479" int/exh lift
    116 LSA

    2001 LS6 cam
    207/217 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.525" / 0.525" int/exh lift
    116 LSA

    2002+ LS6 cam
    204/218 int/exh @ 0.05" duration

    GMPP ASA Cam
    226/236 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.525" / 0.525" int/exh lift
    110 LSA

    6.0 LQ9
    207/196 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.479" / 0.467" int/exh lift
    116 LSA

    5.3 LM7
    190/191 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
    0.466" / 0.457" int/exh lift
    114 LSA

    Throttle Body Information:
A 98-99 TB has a brown spring on it and a smaller throttle cam, GM Part# 17113390.

A 2000-2002 TB has a blue spring on it and it has the biggest throttle cam, GM Part# 17113647.

A Truck TB has a orange spring on it and a cam that is close to the 98-99 F-body ones but it's not an exact fit.

The difference in horsepower comes from compression ratio and camshaft.

I've got a link on my computer at home that explains all of the details.

They don't. It's misinformation spread by GM.

I was told they did this for insurance purposes. 30 HP less will keep the rates down. I haven't confirmed this though.

Look at the passenger side head. It will have 241 stamped on top of the lower front corner unless it's an 853 head.

LS6 manifold on Ls1 engine, you just have to modify the EGR connection; some cutting involved. Other than that, an easy 10-15 HP added.

The gold connection is where the modification is done.

How does the 02 aniversary SS with the full SLP option rate at 345, while the 02 Z28 only rates at 315?

The ram air makes the HP difference with the LS6 manifold.

Since you already have the LS6 manifold there's no need to make the mod. If you have a plain 99-2000 LS1 you can swap to the LS6 manifold.

I thought that would raise some eyebrow's! LOL That's what the salesman told me when I bought my 2002 WS6.

Reality the difference is almost nil. When the LS6 intake was added, a new cam profile was added to remove the EGR. The cam actually raised the low end torque 10 ft lbs and the horsepower pretty well stayed within 5. The LS6 intake does flow better so with a combo of ram and a good cam, HP is a tad better.

BTW, Here's my WS6 with my truck before I lowered it.
