    LS based Distributer

Would anyone on here be interested in seeing what a ls based engines looks like with a carb and distributer on it? Just seeing if there is any interest. Makes it easy to retro fit an LS engine into and older muscle care or street rod.

Saw an episode on HorsepowerTV that just did the same thing. Only problem was that the distributor was in the front. Looked like it made it easier to work on, but didn't look like a Chevy block.

Well the distributer drive I have is in the front too just not the same as the one you saw on HP tv. I know about the style your talking and it mounts a ford distributer straight up and down. The Distributer drive I am talking about mounts it side ways with a crab cap kinda like an opti spark but mounted above the water pump and doesnt have the opti crap.

Thanks for your honesty. I just thought it would clean up the engine bay alot without the wiring harness and the individual coil packs. I am not saying to put this in a 4th gen f body or anything but an old muscle car would be cool. I will try to post pics after I figure out the Photo bucket thing.

MSD sells a ignition controller for carbed LS1/LS6's ...no need for a distributor

I don't see how going to a distibutor is a benefit...even for transplant cars. There are plenty of options from control modules to entire wiring harnesses that allow you to keep the cam sensor/coil-on-plug set-up. Then again, I'm not interested in carbs either...

My point was to get away for the wiring harnesses. Nice clean engine bay under the hood of a muscle car looks way better then a jumbled bunch of wires in my opinion. if some one could help me post pics I will. I cant access photobucket from work for some reason. I have the pics saved in my email. I see your point about the MSD with the Individual coils but some people dont like dealing with the coils. and where they are going to put all of them. Oh and one last thing about the setup. Certain racing sanctions require that you run a carb and distributer. Have you seen the setup thats out there for the GenIII/GenIV engines right now? They stick out like an extra foot off the front of the engine and you have to run cutom V belts to make it work. Dont get me wrong I run a bolt on LS1 in my Trans Am and It is Efi with the ICP but if I had say A 69 Camaro I would surely rock this setup.

Unless you are running a specific race class that requires a distributor or carb, I wouldn't go with either in a LSx car. I've seen a zillion LSx swaps into everything including 1stGen Camaros, '55-57 Chevys, Novas, Chevelles and so forth. They look great with the FI and coil-on-plug and you can hide many of the bulky wire-looms. We'll just have to agree to disagree...

Nice looks good. I love the motor stand as well. I could see doing this "if" the cost of it is at or below what it would cost to run the ignition controllers.

looks nice, if you were worried about the looks of the coils, you can just relocate them, on the frame? or even the K member on the car or make a custom box to have them mounted in, or even the firewall of the car, and make your own wires and run them, just showing another rout, my buddy did that to his GTA when he swaped in an LS1

Yeah I know about relocating the coils. I plan on doing that on my TA when I get the new GMPP Pontiac Valve covers. I am doing things this way to make it easy to drop in for the older hot rodder that just wants a nice engine to drop in and go.
