Actually it's not bad at all. It will be a lot easier if you have a garage and all of the right parts/ tools at your disposal. You only need an intake manfold gasket set, possibly a TB gasket (if you take it off), New o-rings for injectors (if you decide to take them out)....it's not necessary, but it's a lot easier to remove the fuel rails/ injectors as one, 2 knock sensors, and maybe an oil sending unit (it's at the back of the block, behind the manifold and VERY easy to break off). Seriously, just buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual and it'll help out a lot. I did mine in about 1 1/2 hours. It's actually not that bad, the worst part is taking off the manifold bolts. PM me if you want more info.

There are two knock sensors, both under the intake - the code will tell you which one is acting up - if diagnostics confirms it's a knock sensor I'd replace both if pulling the intake.

pulling the intake on these cars is cakewalk compared to most. No gaskets needed. Just need a 10mm and an 8mm wrench. Make sure you don't break the oil pressure sending unit with the brake booster hose when you're pulling the intake out....very easy to do. The sending unit is on the drivers side just behind the intake. There are 2 ways to do the fuel line, you can either get a quick disconnect tool and take the line off or after the bolts are out holding the fuel rail down you can just pop all 8 injectors out and swing the fuel rails and injectors back out of the way. I've done it both ways and both are pretty easy to do.
A handy trick is once the back 3-4 bolts on the intake are loose you'll notice that the cowl prevents them from being pulled all the way out. Pull up on the bolt and put a piece of masking tape around it to keep it from falling back down and then it won't try to hang on everything as you're pulling the intake forward.
Once you get the intake off stuff rags or paper towels into the intake ports on the heads, you don't want a bolt or something to roll down into the ports.
As long as you have it tore down that far go ahead and replace both sensors. Wash the engine bay with a garden hose? That will kill knock sensors if water gets to them by getting under the intake.

Nice pics and info. For me personally, it was easier to remove the fuel rail and injectors before I took off the manifold. Space is a huge issue in there, and it was just easier for me. Good luck.
