just installed my pacesetter lt's and ory but now I've got problems
I installed my parts my self, but now I've got all kinds of problems. my exhaust seems to get into the car, it doesn't sound very good now, and my car will not let me shift into reverse.
so far all I know that I've done wrong is not 100% hooking up the egr stuff, after I finished my install of the headers I figured out the gaskets go with the groove going toward the headers, I tightened the bolts on the headers the best I could within the tight space, however I don't think they're tight enough. I've got big hands and I'm scared of stripping the head.
lastly I did do o2 sensor extensions but the two brown wires that come out of each one looked the same and I hope I didn't mix them up.
any help on what may be happening is appreciated.

are you getting any codes besides EGR? the EGR shouldnt be makign any difference UNLESS you didnt hook it up at all, then that could possibly be where you are leaking from.. the reverse thing.. i have no clue. if your o2 wires are reversed you should get a code right away

Well, I hope you bought some OEM style metal gaskets and didn't use the paper gaskets that came with the headers. Your header-to-y connections might not be sitting properly causing the exhaust to get into the cabin. As far as the O2 wires getting mixed up, if you don't throw a SES light, then you're good.

I'm definitely going to have a ses light because of the ory and not having it tuned out. next my pipes from the headers on back are hooked up great. They're snug in their places with the clamps on them. Also I didn't use paper gaskets on the headers. I used copper, and on the egr stuff I used the paper ones... would that make a great difference?

the egr stuff isn't hooked up as tight as I'd like, but its on there. when driving I hear something that gives me the feeling my headers aren't tight enough to the engine. it kind of sounds like I can actually hear certain pistons. I plan on going to the exhaust shop in the morning and get them to go over it.
by the way I did fire it up with nothing but headers on and it was AWESOME I didn't know my car could sound like that off of just headers!

oh and did you figure out the shifting thing yet?

nope, I don't know what's up with the shifting.
I think I'm smelling exhaust inside because I put my gaskets on backwards. I believe the cabin air comes in right in front of the windshield, right?

Yep, the cabin air comes in at the base of the windshield, so that must be the source of the exhaust smell since everything is fit right underneath.

My EGR didn't hook up very well with my headers either. So I have an exhaust leak right there at the connection. So I am going to just block it all off. But that EGR connection could be the 'leak' that you hear.

Lol good catch gator. Like he said you dont have egr, you have two air lines, there a lil tough too get them too line up but its just a rubber hose your fighting against. The paper shouldnt matter, i used the paper on mine and they have been good for over two years. you should be able too hear an exhaust leak. Its gonna run a lil rich and that could be the smell you have. What did you remove near the tranny that would prevent you from shifting? I recomend you pick up the "pre-made" 02 extensions, i think i paid like 25.00 for two 24" extensions. It was worth the money. You can pick up sims too get rid of the check engine light or like you said get it tunned out.
Could the sound you hear be the ory against the floor board?

If you left the batter connected while messing with the 02 wires, you may have touched some metal and popped the fuse for the 02 sensors. This fuse is connected to the reverse lockout mechanism of the t56 transmission. If that fuse is blown, you can't get into reverse. I think the name of the fuse is Engine Sensors or something, it is a 10A. It is in the fuse box closest to the front bumper.

You do not need AIR. Just close the holes on the headers and take all the hoses off the AIR system. Leave it in or you will throw a code, if you get it deleted then you can take it out.
As for the sound, are you sure that the header is clear of the frame completely? My was hitting and made a terrible noise...

as for the shifting thing, I removed nothing that should have anything to do with the transmission. I do remember trying to get the passenger side header in and one of those air line hook ups on my header got caught on a wire. I kept pulling because I didn't see what it was hung up on and then I saw it. I pulled the wire off of it. maybe that was something to do with it.
I already extended the o2 sensor wires with the wire supplied, was that good enough? and I made sure the exhaust didn't touch the metal on the car because I know that can make horrible rattleing sounds against the car.
I called an exhaust shop today and they told me in tight spaces its good to use allen wrench bolts when putting on headers because the tool used is smaller. I'm about to go pick up a set and get those gaskets put on right today.
I appreciate you guys help

now it is for the most part. I still slightly smell the exhaust but maybe I need to let lots of fresh air in to get the old smell out. I took my car to one of my buddies shops and he found out that I had a loose plug under my car. I remember the passenger side header air fitting hooking onto it and I didn't know it till it was too late and I just pulled it off. any how I can get into reverse now but it is hard and takes muscle. I went to autozone and they told me I've got a code that says 1-4 shift solenoid malfunction, so I know it's got to do something with that. It's kinda like I've got a free skip shift eliminator now... pretty cool hahaha I still want to get it right and just tune it out later though.
moral is be careful to not get hung up on wires.
