how to get rid of the ''muscle car'' sound

This is a discussion on how to get rid of the ''muscle car'' sound within the External Engine forums, part of the LSx Technical Help Section category; the whole underside of the car would have to be cut and modifided. I wonder what kind of hp gains ...

the whole underside of the car would have to be cut and modifided. I wonder what kind of hp gains you can get from a setup like that. Oh yeh.....and the weight it must add......never thought about that haha

I have pacesetter headers, pacesetter ory, magnaflow catback and a electric cut out. Its pretty tame just cruising around but when you get into it, it gets loud. It's a clean sound imo. When the cut out is open (which most of the time it is) it sounds awesome, very loud but awesome. With headers and a ory, I don't think anything sounds better then magnaflow.

You don't think a vette has more ground clearance do ya? If they can be packaged on an LS1 vette, I'm sure it can be done to an Fbody. I just don't think anyone has cared to do it at this point. The demand isn't there.

I've never had ground clearance issues on our 4th gens with headers. I also don't drop our cars in the weeds either. That's where most issues lie.
These cars sit low enough as is in my opinion.

I've never personally had issues. My hookers tuck up just fine. Just always heard that slp's have had issues and that looks like al lot of extra piping. I prefer a 1" drop on our cars.

I'm not saying it can't be done, just agreeing that it would take a ton of work.

That's why they are expensive, partly because they work, and partly because they are hard to package on a street car. You'll see them mainly on race cars (roundy rounds). Much easier to package on a race car.

There is a shop up the street from me, McCabe Racing. His name is Rob, he travels all around the country and builds headers for the Nascar teams. He's good at what he does, and could say he might be one of the best in the country if Nascar employs him. He also does tube chassis, back halves, etc...but to get back to the point....

He gets about $800-$1,000 to custom build a very high quality set of headers for each particular car that comes in, and they'll fit and perform better than any "store bought" header. I'm sure he could package a 180 degree header for just about any car that came in, but could you imagine the cost?? On a street car I don't see the logic in it.

That Vette with the 180s, to me, sounded like the current ZR1.

Interesting. I haven't actually heard a ZR1 run other than idling around the parking lot at a local cruise.

Guess you'd have to be familier with DOHC engines.. They sound totally different especially @ high rpm's where DOHC engines shine..

You can put headers, cams and all kinds of goodies on a single cam 2v engine, you're not ever sounding like a 4 valve 4 enigne..period..

Just concentrating on getting the launch perfect with rpm and clutch slipping because ultimate ET was the goal there. Reaction time has no bearing on the ET, the timers don't start until the car rolls out of the beams.
