    Headers = - + Gas Mileage?

    Do longtube headers hurt or help your gas mileage?

    If you drive it nice it should help. But if you wanna get the use out of your headers and hot rod around it will drop mileage.

    My fuel consumption varied +/- 1mpg anyways, and I didn't notice a change after the headers.

    Nicbmann is right, if you're looking for things to help your gas mileage check out an underdrive pulley and an electric water pump, but playing with that extra HP can cost you... Of course there's higher gears too, but where's the fun in that...

    I gained 1mpg with Kooks Lt headers & cated y-pipe. Lost it when I added the 4.10 rear end gears.

    I didnt ask the question but your answer really helped out SARGE. I must say you are a class act guy and from now on everyone on this website should ask you and only you their questions. Im sure the original poster doesnt appreciate your comments and neither does anyone else. Everyone knows the before the buy their V8 that it doesnt get really good gas mileage and there is nothing wrong with wondering if a mod will help or hurt their MPG. So keep your sarcasm to yourself.
    I also am intrested in the answer to this question because headers are my next mod.

    Wow! You only lost 1mpg with 4:10's?? That's not bad. Is your driving mainly highway or city?
