hey guys i know this is a trans am forum but my sister's boyfriend had a loud noise coming from the hood in his 97 gmc 1500 we open it up and look and there is a hole in the header. it is a true dual exhaust also. has anyone heard of this happening?

Could just be due to rust. Got any pics?
Could also be a stuck injector, dumping fuel into that manifold causing it to ignite and eventualy fail.

+1 , what else has he done to the truck ? are the header bolts all there ? are all the true duals mounting points still intact ? a broken mounting tab can cause alll sorts of banging on the press of the throttle or is it just when its sitting ?? it could be many things including like sunsetorangess sayed a stuck injector slamming raw fuel into the combustion chambers and causing a bam!
