GMMG is too loud to AutoX. Suggestions?

I got a cammed 01 SS w/ LTs and GMMG exhaust. I've been autocrossing for a few years now and took the camaro out last week for it's first run around the cones. The sound limit is 96dB and I by far had the loudest car there....it hit 104.7dB. I really like the GMMG exhaust and would like to keep it for looks, if nothing else....however I'm not against parting with it if I really must.

What would one suggest in getting the sound level down? So far, the best idea I have is to try and put a small, unrestricted muffler before the GMMG - however I'm not sure if I want to do this or not - or even what muffler to go with.

I also was thinking about welding in some flanges so I can take in and out the additional muffler when I would like - and when I didn't want it in, I could have a straight piece what can bolt in it's place when not in use and it would be just like the system in place at the moment.

    Any suggestions?

The next race is this Sunday, so I will need to decide on what to do in the next few days.

    Thanks in advance!

That idea wouldnt be a bad idea!

I bet a magnaflow would tone it down alittle and still sound real nice.

push a lil steel wool up in the tips and push something in behind it to keep it in place... Will restrict flow some, but will really kill the sound and its easily reversable...

    Too many

do you know where they have the meters? is it sitting on the ground? is it elevated?

theres always the cheap way by changing the direction of where the exhaust goes. angle it up and away, down and away, etc

you can also add in a powerstick to your y-pipe to quiet it down. my friend has LTs and GMMG with a cam...he was getting tired of the excessive noise so he added the powerstick, it's A LOT quieter now. worth looking into

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm going to make something to pack fiberglass into the tips. When I come up with the final design I'll post some pics.

if it were me and i was just running it for the event i would just take a paper clip and bend it into a V... push it up in there tip first... when it expand it will drag the sides and keep the wool from flying out, but when you want to get it out just reach in there and pull it out...

do you have the gmmg tips? if so you could fill those things up with as you said fiber glass and then just take netting and rubber band it around the outside...

I've never done AutoX and am curious as to why there is a noise limit??? Is it just so you dont annoy everyone? And how/when do they measure it?

I'd simply put a SLP LM1, LM2, Dynomax bullet, etc before it goes over the axle.

Exactly.................most autox sites are usually set up in "public" areas, like parking lots, not closed, specific courses......................not sure how they measure...............
