    gasket?

I had hooker headers installed on my 00 ws6. recently I started it and had a very loud backfire. no the exhaust sounds raspy. I suspect a leak and was wondering if theres a gasket between the header and exhaust. it looks like something sticking out of the joint on the passenger side. i'm going to take it apart but just wondering if theres a gasket that may have blown on the backfire?

I assume that you had someone else do it, and they probably put in paper gaskets which WILL and probably have 'blown out'. If you hear a hisss coming from your engine bay, that's it.

You mean the gaskets between the headers and the heads or after the collector? Check for sounds coming from the connections between pipes. Definitely take it apart and probably put better gaskets in.

Yes, and by better gaskets, you probably mean stock GM gaskets, right?

Yeah, for the main seal at the exhaust ports into the headers, the Stock GM gaskets are the way to go. I dunno if you have any flanges for the rest of the exhaust check all the connections.
