one thing you will notice is how much faster and dirtier your air filter is going to get.

Get a Amsoil Airfilter and be done with it. Then who cares how fast it gets dirty because you can vaccum it out or use low psi (20 or so) to blow it out. Dominate Airfilter FTMFW!!

I did it on my Z and definetly noticed a nice improvment .Nothing crazy but better . My 2:73 geared Z ( with stock stall )would barely spin when I stomped it at a stop .Now I actually have some traction problems from a dig . Its a good problem to have .

Take it to the track with some duct tape. That's what I did.
Block it completely off. I went from using the SS hood, to both, and then just the free ram air mod.
It helped my car out to the tune of almost a tenth and 1 mph with everything open.

I did the FA mod , a SLP lid and smooth bellows all at the same time (stock filter,it was new) on my 2.73 geared Z28. Traction is real a problem now, as I do long burnouts. I think it was worth the 45 minutes of cutting. I used the slp ram air installations, so it is ready for a drop in for a ram air scoop if I can ever decide which one to use SLP, Fast Toys or the one on Ebay.

well the only different in the fast toys and the slp one is a small piece of sheet metal that you can get from your local hardware store instead of payin the extra fifty bucks for that system over others so go with slp and then just by that piece at the hardware store nd do it yourself and as for the ebay one im not down with plastic plus it looks like it would suck up water way to easy

I did ther FRA mod back when it was first concieved and it does work. You guys have to remember When the LS1 was new for a couple years we didn't have an aftermarket and we did what we could to make more power.

I did mine back in 1999 with no regrets. You'll know it works when you see the stripe of dirt across the filter.

Idk if this has been posted or not, but here's a good tip. If you're gonna cut that out, cut out both flaps, and the bar in the middle of the tray. Next, take a small drill, and drill out the nostril baffles, break them out. Then go to ace hardware and get a few pieces of their foam- it's made for garages, and get the package 1 3/4 by 1 3/4 by i think ten. they're like $3, and then put it behind your nostril box- accross the top and sides. It'll seal up the gap between your hood and your air box. Doing all that, you'll see a difference. You'll feel the car pull a little bit more at highway speeds, as well as if you get on it on a good road. Im in the process of making my own ftra as well.
