    A few header questions

I am looking for a set of headers for my '01 WS.6. I am looking at either the Kook's or the Hooker Super Comps and matching them with a true dual system. I don't know if I need the AIR and EGR stuff on them. Does anyone know if you need these things to pass emissions tests or is there a way to bypass those? I would also like to not use cats if I don't have to but since it is a street car I would like to keep it as legal as possible. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks All!

you have an '01, so you dont have to worry about EGR because you dont have it, all your headers have to have are 02 sensor bungs.

if you are worried about passing emissions buy some highflow cats, can't say how well they work, others on the site have them though..

As Justin said, you can have the SES light tuned out for removing the AIR system, and run without it. I'm not sure how strict PA is with emissions, but you may need to keep it to pass. I know quite a few members on here are in PA, so they may be able to clear that up.

Thanks fellas. That's good info. I didn't know my car didn't have EGR.

You can pass OBD emissions with air codes turned off and rear o2 sensors tuned out, but you will fail a strict visual inspection if they do those in PA.

Welcome to the site Brian! Whereabouts in PA?

I went with Kooks LT's on our car and their catted Y-pipe. Figured I would keep it at least semi-legal, even though I did ditch the secondary air system and tuned out the rear O2 senders. Kooks is a bit more money, buy the fit and durability of stainless is well worth it.

Thanks Jeff! I'm in the Harrisburg area. With what everyone has said here I am gonna go with the Kooks LT's. Do you pass emissions tests with the setup you're running with?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for the best price on Kooks headers? I usually shop with Summit which has them for 850 but if someone knows of a better deal out there..let me know!

    Thanks again all!

I ordered mine from KY Speed back when they sponsored the site.

Fortunately, we do not have emissions testing in our area -- I'm a little over 2 hours north of you. Next year, if you ever get the urge to run at the track, we have a place in Beaver Springs about 2 miles from the strip. You are more than welcome to join us on a test and tune day.

Ya I forgot they don't require emissions upstate. And thanks for the offer. I might take you up on it someday once I get a little more work done to the car. By the way, what primary size did you get? Just curious.

Dauphin county has an on board diagnostic OBD inspection and maintenance check and gas cap test. So as long as the AIR is tuned out you should pass the emissions test.

Ah good to know. Ya I've heard it's a blast. I definitely want to get my rear end done first so I don't snap an axle like my buddy did there. Thanks!

I went with the 1-7/8" primaries to allow for future upgrades -- cam and heads. Might just happen this winter if all goes well.
