I've got a single manual cutout where the pipe turns into the muffler. My car has factory ground effects and you can't get to a cutout mounted any further forward. It's a snap to open. Three bolts and you're running open exhaust. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed when I uncapped it for the first time. I'm used to my old school 60s cars. Both my 69 Mustangs have the cutouts just behind the collectors so you get open headers when you pull the plugs. The Camaro has those damn cats that act as mini mufflers when the cutout is open. Not nearly as nasty sounding as my cammed 351W or my cammed 302. BTW, I thought about the QTP cutout because it would be convenient to pop open the cutout whenever I wanted, but the cost and the installation hassle combined with the failure/leak experiences turned me off. The little actuator motor has to fry eventually in that hi temp environment.

The LS1 won't sound like old muscle. Even open headers.

    Firing order is why.

I have 1 qtec under the rear pass seat....I am going to put it in the pipe just before the muffler after the axle....better clearance.

When I was your age I would do the manual cutout thing (yes they had such things back in the day), but as I get older (I'm 52 now) I sure appreciate the comfort and convience of flipping a switch to open the exhaust up.

BTW: I've never in 2 years had a problem with the QTP 3" electric cutout I have on the car.

Is the wiring for the electric cut out system hard to run to the interior? Don't really have a car lift so i would have to do all the work myself! I just can't make up my mind yet as to go through the manual or electric!!!!

Found A Diagram In Their Website That Shows You More Or Less How To Run The Wires... Still A Little Confusing Though! Leaning More Towards The Manual Ones! What Do You Guys Think?

    Check out DMHPerformance.com
Much better motors than the Qtecs.
He is custom building me a new system right now that doesnt interfere with ground clearance. He will email you pics of it if you want. His name is Dave.

ARE THESE CUSTOM CUTOUTS EXPENSIVE? DID YOU GET THE MANUAL OR ELECTRIC SETUP?

you can get them either way. He custom builds them. A one man operation. really good customer support. I got 2 for 300 something. Im being told to just use one though by a few other individuals. you could get 2 manuals for 100 or so. your best bet is to just get the number off the website and call. He will send you a pic of a charger he just did with the new 'low profile' setup.

I get a slight leak when my mccord is shut because the butterfly valve does not seal perfectly, but it is nothing really noticable to anybody else and my dynamax muffler is not much louder then the stock muffler was.

So if you get a leak in the cutouts... doesn't it screw up your RWHP?

I have 2 of Dave (Dave Hacker, DMP performance) cutouts on mine. They dont leak. He has a good warrenty and stands by his work. I have had one replaced already (my fault) and it was no problem. He is here in cincinnati and I know him personally.

I didnt know he made custom ones, but I might need to look into getting something that can fit in there better because my car is lowered, planning on raising it up for that reason.

No, I have the cutout mounted under the rear passenger side seat after hi-flo cats. It is only noticable to me if i get down low near the cutout. Besides that the cutout is about 4 years old and seen about 40k miles.

    That does look impressive.

Price can't be pretty though on a custom set-up.
