Intake leaks suck in . They are a vacuum. Where as a tire is a pressurized force blowing out

I know...your missing my point..... if it leaks in, it will pry leak out also... so pressurize the inside and watch for bubbles on the outside....

Jezus josh, for being my gay step brother, you dont think like i do with a shit today....

Engine off, compressed air into the intake, water on the outside, it will build some pressure and would show a leak.....

but depending on your cam overlap that wont work. if your intake and exhaust valvles are both open alittle it wont work. plus how are you going to pressurize the intake with that big hole in the front? the brake clean while running is much easier.

I was told that if the add coolant light comes on that it is an indication that the intake has a leak. I was also told that this is common on 99 trans ams. I had a friend with a similar engine and the coolant light came on. The reason was a leaky intake. I also smell antifreeze when I am just sitting there. I checked my antifreeze and I am not low in the radiator or the overflow.

I didn't spray carb cleaner to test the intake. I was told that if the add coolant light comes on and stays on and the radiator and overflow is full, it is because there is a leak in the intake manifold. I was told this is common on 99 trans ams. Of course both my radiator and overflow are full and I ran for a while last year with it on and now I need to fix it. I also smell antifreeze when I am just sitting idling for a while. I had a friend have the same light come on and had the same problem. The intake needed to be removed and reinstalled. So, while I am there, lets go for performance.

    Thanks again for the info.

Dood. The low coolant light means the sensor is corroded. These intakes DO NOT have coolant in them.. You have a serious issue. While the performance gain is worth it. Whoever told you that IS A COMPLETE DUMBASS.

take out the tray and buy the coolant sensor and problem fixed. The smell is from a leak somewhere... There are NO coolant passage in the intake of a ls1.

    EDIT.

This is why I asked how did you determine it was leaking..

    I knew something was fishy...

Wow bud, uuuuuuggggghhhhhh no you are incorrect in your method of thinking.... the only thing even remotely close to having the intake affecting the coolant would be the lines underneath the manifold but thats not your problem, I'd be checking into a sensor as Josh stated, yet, you should still have coolant in the overflow anyways... but it should not be overflowing depending on your situation....

It is a good performance gain tho to put a new intake on.....

Thank you for the info. I wanted to check to see if I was told right. I wanted the performance gains anyway. So now I can fix to birds with one stone.

    Thanks again.
