    Fan Belt/Pulley Removal?

OK, I have a fan belt squeaking problem and i need to fix it. However, i do not know where to start in replacing or taking off the belt or pulleys. I did narrow the squeaking down to 1 particular pulley (the main crank pulley, the 1 spins to pump the pistons in the cylinder heads). This particular one also has a huge bolt, It is slightly smaller than 1". Now, what do i have to do in order to remove the belt so that i can spin the pulleys by hand and get a idea of which one(s) is squeaking? Then once i narrow it down, should i replace it, or simply remove the pulley and lubricate it? Thanks

If it sounds like its 'squeeling' during startup, then the belt is just loose, it has too much slack, or side-play. You could tighten the idler pulley or get a new belt and check if the one you have on is stretched.

"crank pulley" is what your refering too. I would purchase some "belt dressing" and see if that makes the squealin go away. if it does then replace the belt. Too remove the belt just get find the idler pulley, And get a socket wrench, not sure of size, and pull up on it and the belt should become slack and you can remove it.
Iv never heard of a crank pulley squealin so make sure you look at your idlers and water pump pulleys.

Just make sure you look at the diagram under the hood to see which way the idler pulley swings. You don't want to actually loosen the idler bolt, or you will have problems getting the belt tight again.

so to loosen the idler pulley i just put a socket on the bolt and turn as to loosen it and it will come up? then there is enough slack in the belt to remove it?
