Factory hurst shifter & regular shifter?
On some 6 speed LS1 fbodies some came from the factory with a Hurst shifter and some did not..Are both the shifters the same in length? What makes the Hurst shifter better than the regular shifter?

Its shorter shifts isnt it? Thats the only thing I know of. Shorter time to shift=faster car in theory.

some also claim a more comfortable shift with the hurst aswell... something tells me the hurst shifter is a ws6/ss option but I'm not basing that on anything so don't quote me...

I do believe that the Hurst shifter was an ws6/SS option only. At least that is what I've been told.

I know it was a SLP option on the SS I believe, but not so sure about the WS6.

My car had a Hurst shifter -- from my understanding it was a SLP option.
If anyone's interested in upgrading their regular shifter to the stock Hurst, I have one for sale for $45shipped -- shoot me a PM if you're interested.2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.

My firehawk has the Hurst shifter, definitely shorter than a standard one. I like it.

2005 Ram SRT-10 QC 8.3l- 1999 FRC Black
I have both in 2 different T/A's . The factory one is a longer throw but sooo smooth. The Hurst is a little notchy and a little shorter throw. NOthing like a Pro 5.0 or B&M or the other Hurst. I love my Hurst with a shorter stick, works great. Wish it had the smoothness of the factory unit though. Can't have your cake and eat it too?

My TA is a base model and it came with the hurst shifter so I dont think its just a ws6/ss option

No the car had it becuase I know what it looks like and I saw it. The fact it was listed on the window sticker means it wasn't just and SS/WS6 option since the car I was looking at was z28.

I haven't driven any other T/As except mine, and it has the hurst. I have driven my old man's 04 C5 though. The through on my Hurst compared to his stock/non-Hurst is about the same. The only real difference I can see between them is when it's in gear, dad's vette still has some play, where as my Husrt is solid.

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
Hurst Shifter was optional on all 6spd cars from 99-`02 so it is NOT specific to SS or WS6's
The difference is in the Shifter itself the sticks are the same just with a different knob. The Hurst has slightly shorter throw vs the standard shifter, but the aftermarket Hursts (Billet Plus & Competition Plus) are better units and actually cost less.

Right now I have a stock shifter with a UMI short stick but 2morrow I am suppose to go get a hurst competition plus shifter.
I hope the stick works with it

I special ordered my reg Trans Am with the Hurst. I've held both in my hand before, the hurst has a thicker base. The reg stock shifter is flimsy. Just have to hold em both, difference is obvious.
