    exhaust cutout

    i have a 98 ss and its stock minus a lid and kn filter and catback, i would like to
    get headers but i live in ca and smog is a bitch, i wanna get a electric cutout but i wanna know if i would loose power or gain power? i have asked around and gotten mixed answers of yes and no does anybody have the TRUTH?

    I honestly feel that it gains power, i have one on my 01 T/A...i like it alot.. and they are only like $200

    my car has no muffler right now,,, and i feel a diference on it..
    cut out should be bout the same..
    00 ss blk m6 " STOCK" strano springs, slp bilstein shocks, adj LCA, adj panhard bar, relocation brackets, 2 point SFCs welded,OEM zo6 rims black, magnaflow exhaust, CME exhaust,E/cutout, slp grille, custom front plate mount, HIDs, whistler mod, side moldings delete, slp air lid, ported and polished TB, strut tower brace, 3.73s gears, and some other parts to list!
    next to come,4.10s,ls7 clutch, ms3 or 228r cam, ported 243s, ls6 intake, ls6 oil pump. ls2 timing chain, longtube headers no cats, with a tune..

    Yes, of course you will pick a few more horses when the cutout is open. How much depends on your specific setup. Obviously, the exhaust noise volume will be much louder when the cutout is open. Then hit the switch and you're back to 'normal' volume (if stock; even quieter if you add additional mufflers and/or resonators). This is a nice option if you live in a quiet neighborhood.

    i have one after cats and it sure sounds faster. i got my cut out on ebay for about $100.

    i still have the stock single ss exhaust so its alot louder but if i was you i would somehow put it in front of the cats for a loud difference.

    I was told by a smog tech that in CA, it has to go after the cats

    this is what i got, its 3" so its a little too big. you can see in the video the gap. but the hose clamps crush it to seal. you could get some reducers and weld it up nice. the system has held up great since i got it 6months ago

    idk about the ca law)= i live in cali tho so i HOPE it will pass

    i dont think after the cat is legal, i think cops would love to give me a fixit

    When I had my car smogged last time, I asked the guy about cutouts, and this was at a test only station, and he told me that anything after the cats was legal.
