Nowadays they are made much better and seal up tight. I run a pair of them on 3 different cars. I have always been old school and love the sound. Back then there was no such thing as running your car down the strip with an exhaust system,,,,an exhaust what? lol.

Even after tuning my cars through the exhaust systems I still find that the cutouts give me another 1/10th or so and usually 1-2 mph. Thats with a real dual exhaust system, 3 inch mandrel bends with Dr. Gas X-pipe etc....

The electric cutouts nowadays are pretty neat, but I just can't swallow the price tag, I would need 6 of them.
I just decide whether or not I want the headers open that day, crawl under the car and uncap it, takes 2 minutes, then I just enjoy the car all day with open headers. Never been pulled over for it, and even driven past cops with open headers. Just lucky I guess, been doing it for years.

hummm explain your open headers setup

So build your own duals with a bullet style race muffler with some turn downs.
I really like the sound of the newer DynoMax bullets. Just turn the turn downs sideways with a slight turn down. I just can't stand resonating....And with the cut outs it is usually horrible when coming off the throttle.
No cats true 3" it will be loud like you want it with mufflers, and in my opion sound better. SpinTechs race mufflers sound great also.

hmmmm. I'm in Ohio and love my cutouts too. Maybe there's something to that. The difference is I'm not that old yet.
The price is definitely a factor for the e-cutouts but if you ever used one you would be sold on it.

the difference there is that when I'm cruising through town at night I can't hit a little switch and turn off 3" duals.

and ears with our sweet ass cutouts.

I don't ever consider any performance measures with my cutout. I use it just because it's fun. It gets some good looks on the street when at lights and you open it up for someone.

Your right, once I had one at the flip of the switch I would be hooked, thats why I am afraid to try them,,,,then I would just have to have 6 of those damn things, not sure my wife would swing for that,,,lol.

I guess maybe, if you sit in traffic all the time. I don't really notice, as my brain cells are fried anyway from years of driving and riding around in cars way back when with nothing but header mufflers that stopped under the front seats. Might be why I am hard hearing now too

back when I was on stock manifolds with cats there was really no exhaust issues but with headers, no cats, and cam overlap the car is a tad bit stinky now.

Here's 2 videos. The idle video is when I first got the car going after the cam install so it's in the garage. The 2nd one is at the track last month against my buddies vette.
