    Cool EGR Delete

i just noticed after having my 98 z28 for about a year and a half that one of the previous owners deleted the EGR valve.its blocked off with a plate and the plug is just hangin there now.whats the purpose/benefit of this?its runs real rich, like exhaust fumes are wicked strong...this must be a part of that.
    Thanks.

Did he also delete the cats? That can definately increase the fumes. The EGR does take some of the exhaust and recirculate it back through the combustion process thereby burning it more completely. Without it, you might smell the fumes more, but considering that they didn't install an EGR on the '01 and '02 models, I would have to assume that it doesn't create that noticable an increase in the gas smell.

I have the EGR block offs, no cats, and my plug is just hanging there. And the fumes are not that bad. Have you had it tuned?

yup tuned will definetely change that whole running rich thing which is probably what you smell. You will always smell fumes without cats just not as much once its tuned nicely with proper A/F ratio.

i took it and had it tuned the other day. i actually took it to have it tuned late last summer and had an o2 sensor bad so the tune didnt happen. i replaced the sensor over the winter and forgot all about it. the tune is all done and the fumes are actually bearable now.

Yeah its easy to forget the small things. It seems like you replace a bolt, and you need to have it retuned! haha
