Do I need a tune? Headers

I am looking to buy a set of headers probably shorties due to emissions. Is it recommend to get a dyno tune like it is with long tubes since it can throw off the air/fuel, or will it act like the stock manifolds. And finally what kind of HP & sound will I get from shorties?

What year car do you have? a 98-99 car will benefit from shorties more than other. But if you want a real gain you should go with long tubes.

A tune is a good idea so that you will maximize your gains...for instance when I added headers I put down 335hp & 342tq on the dyno...after tuning, 351 hp & 355 tq...that's a big difference!

If you're going to install headers, I'd go with long tubes since shorties will not show much gain over the stock exhaust manifolds. After some disappointment, you'd be saying, "Why didn't I go ahead and install long tubes while I was at it..."

And yes, definitely get a tune after any header install.

I am running pacesetters with no tune and I am showing
zero et gains over stock at the strip so I say a tune is a must have item.

When I put on my headers with no tune I slowed down et, but picked up mph. Do you have o2 sims on it. I also had someone tell me that it retards timing if you don't. I didn't have them and it hurt me. Since I put my cam, gears, headers, and a dyno tune it is much better.

I do not have sims. I will have rear 02s deleted with tune.
