Detonation,,,,Clatter at WOT
2002 SS Camaro A4,,,,,, 40,000 miles I just bought the car and it is stock. I bought a SLP lid,,,,Donaldson Blackwing,,,and smooth bellows for it and put them all on,,,,,,Fit was great. Now under WOT,,, full acceleration it detonates and clatters with 93 octane. It did not clatter before install. I have put 2 different brands of 93 octane fuel and the same thing. Anybody know what the deal is??? Bad gas or did the simple mods change it??
Thanks

Any codes? Did you damage your maf while instailing? Check all of your connections, Maf and Iat sensor.. Make sure your maf is facing the right direction.
J2001 SS, Its not the car its the Driver that matters....

Very strange indeed. I have something a tad similar going on, though I can't seem to reproduce it. Sometimes, whenever I am WOT and in high RPMs, I'll hear clicking/clatter... 93 Octane, Shell V-Power gas, and I've seafoamed the car. Twice. I also flushed the coolant system. Hmm.
mods: SLP Lid, Ported & Polished TB, 3.5" Magnaflow cat-back, SFCs. 42k miles.

The MAF is facing the right direction etc.etc. Runs just fine except under WOT in gear. Everything looks fine.

Change your spark plugs & wires. If that doesn't help fix it, get it tuned.

Thanks for the help!!!
I have a Diablo Predator programmer coming and I will change the plugs and maybe the wires. The car only has 48,000 miles on it.

I would go one heat range cooler with my plugs. Example...if your running NGKTR55's go NGK6...

Do you think maybe your getting more air flow over the MAF and now it has adjusted the A/F? I mean isnt that the purpose of the mods you listed? Go one notch cooler on your plugs...if the MAF doesnt relearn and it goes away.....

Who Knows
Correct..... You would think that It would have more air flow and maybe it leaned out some but the computer etc.etc. should have noticed that and compensated for it. I may have gotten some 87 octane for 93 octane prices if you know what I mean. The MAF and computer should adjust for this I would think,,,,,,, It is not like the SLP lid,,,Blackwing filter..and smooth bellllows would make night and day differences,,,but maybe they do.

I am assuming you took the negative battery cable off for a few minutes to let the PCM relearn?

Yeah I was just trying to get folks to 'think"
That MAF isnt adjusting to the newfound air.....reset that MAF man....

Maf
I did not disconnect the battery. I assumed that it would adjust the mixture,,,,,did not know the power needed to be shut off. I will do that today.
Thanx

Two fuse panels on the drivers side in the front. With the ignition on pull the two PCM fuses (one in each fuse box). Wait for 3 min., then shut off the ignition and replace the fuses. Start car! It will idle like crap for about 5 min until the computer relearns it's air to fuel ratio's.
