Cut Out Leagal?
I live in CT, if i was to get a cutout welded in would it be illegal with it shut
like are they illegal just to have or just illegal when they are open, i plan on getting an electric one

they arent street legal but i think its really unlikely ud fail with one primarily because inspection station guys really dont know much about cars. jus dont go to inspection with a cut out open for obvious reasons. chances are they'll never notice. what they wanna know is, is the car excessively loud and is it gonna pass the sniff test.

yea in ct you have to have a car that is at most a 95 to be "sniffed" 1996+ they just do a computer scan

They are probably illegal every where, but a lot of guys are running them anyway.

Yes they are illegal but you just drive with it closed and you should be fine. Cops around me here in WI are laid back and really don't care but I know there's a lot of places where cops will be all over you for being so loud and I'm sure CT would be one of them.

Black/Purple Marble- 1995 Camaro
Heh I have them on my '95 and I'll have them on the new one I'm about to get. If they can't hear it, what are they going to do look?? It's like how will they ever know I don't have a cat that works, what are they going to do take it out and cut it apart?

Go for it - if your state does a visual inspection just unplug/unbolt it and put the cutout gasket and cover on. Notwithstanding noise issues, any exhaust that doesn't exit outside the perimeter of the car is illegal.

NBM- 99 Camaro SS
You heard wrong, Actually it's one of very best mods you can do for a F - body ! 7 - 10 hp for about $40 - 50 bucks.
As far as losing TQ. you might lose a little under 4000 rpm above that is all
a plus!
C/O is worth .10 & 1mph in Quarter.
If anyone is thinking about getting one, do it "Zed style" installed right where pipe turns down just before muffler.

I have an electric cut out in my Borla, where the plates are supposed to be. I've been pulled over a few times for "loud exhaust", to the cops supprise when he gets up to the car she sounds like stock
Sorry for the delay, I pulled over the wrong guy; Little do they know

so long as it's closed, there is nothing illegal about it at that time because the exhaust would be going past the passenger compartment. only when it's open would there be an issue. nice to have an electric one.
