RED (M6)- 2001 Camaro SS 13.39@106
Codes for bad cats GONE!?!
A few months ago I noticed my ses light pop on while I was at idle in standing water. I thought I soaked my O2's so I had the code reset. Came back on after a day or two. I had it diagnosed at chevy and was told I had two bad cats. Not O2's. They did a backpressure test. (just passed the 8yr warrenty).I just kept driving anyway. Then during a road trip the light went out on its own. Came back about a week later. Then went away again after I "got on it." It has not come back on for the last 300 miles or so. Hard driving seems to have "fixed" it. Is this possible? Did the PCM just recalibrate? If so do you guys think I still have bad cats and the car just learned how to deal with them?

mine were the same way, got a code, cleared it, came back, did a few heavy hard runs down the highway and cleared the code and it didnt come back on for 7 months then it came back... If you get the code again just go to the dealer to get them replaced under warranty and yes its now 10 year 120k miles, gm extended it for our cars due to them failing early. One thing i do have to tell you is to search the internet for the extended warranty on the cats as the dealer will give you bs and say its only 8 years and forget about calling up the gm hotline and asking cause they dont know either but once you give them the number to look up, oh yea look at that they extended the warranty...

I went to my dealership with this post in hand, after a small run around saying they were out of warrenty at 80K I got the manager to look up the code and Voila! sure enough, they will replace them for free. They wanted to charge me for a $90 diagnostic but then I told them that all 8 codes in the computer were related to either the left or right Cat so they waived the fee. I still have 3k more miles before the deal is Void and until July for the 10 years. I may put Headers and a full exhaust on anyway, and just leave it like it is. Still not decided.
