Catch can cleanout
I cleaned the catch can out yesterday for the first time. It was brown-yellow color with a thin consistency. About three ounces of it after 2000 miles.
Does this sound normal to those who use a catch can?

Funny! I had the same thing first time I emptied it! It looked more like gas than oil, but it didn't light on fire or anything. Mine was mainly water and a touch of oil which gave it that yellow/brown/orange thin color. I think it's normal, but even if it's not... I'm glad that isn't going back into the engine.
On my 2nd and 3rd empting, I barely had anything at all... so I'm not sure if all that stuff was something which just needed to be cleaned out for the first time.2000 WS6 TA #2946 - A4, Best 1/4: 12.5s @111mph.

Good to hear someone else has the same thing. It sure is a good thing to keep that junk out of the intake.
Maybe its nothing, but it seems like the car is running better since the catch can install. Did you experience similar results?

Can a can be made? does it just hook into the pcv valve that is behind the TB?

if you google mike norris catch cans, it will bring you to his sight. He has 3 different ones for sale and the only real difference is the fittings and hoses, the cheapest one is $95 shipped.

This is true, which is why I didn't buy one for the longest time.
Then about a year ago Kentucky Speed, a sponsor here, had a sale on them at $80 a piece, shipped to my door. That was a steel compared to the going rate, so I bought 2 of them.
Might want to give them a shout, very nice people over there.

I paid about $110 for my catch can and a around $3 more for the line. I used fuel line, 3/8th inch I think. The can went in easy. I attached it to the passenger side head. Removing the old lines and installing the new was a little time consuming but not too difficult.

Z28 Driver: I couldn't tell a difference in driveability, but I did notice the elimination of the black oily film on the back of my TB plate. I was a little miffed though that I haven't had that much in the can since the very first time.

Would it possibly be because that same sludge isn't constantly recirculating?

Thanks for getting that on there. I can't find my camera.
It might just be the cold air of winter that is making it perform a little better. This is the first winter with the SSRA on it to. Anyway it sounds awesome. Growls everytime I touch the gas.
