    Cat-Back Opinions Please

I've had it with the stock exhaust on my 01 z28! I wanna be loud and heard, so I was considering the SLP lm1. But I have heard good things about the Hooker Headers cat-back system, and I heard the summit racing system is not to bad either (being almost $200 cheaper too). So I guess my question is the SLP cat-back worth the extra cash vs the other two? Any input would be great, thanks!

next in line would be the SLP LM1,

when it comes to exhaust taste it varies from person to person. Me I love Magnaflow's over Flowmasters. FM comes across to raspy.

I have the SLP LM1 and it sets off the neighbors alarm when I start it up in the garage. It also makes for great fun to scare the shit outta homeless people when going under an overpass.

My SS had the LM1 on it when I bought it.

It was cool for a little while then it just sucked.

    Highway drone became unbearable.

I put the Magnaflow cat back on it and it was FAR better sounding.

Minimal drone while cruising but nice and loud when you step on it.

Plus it looked a lot nicer.

I've used the Hooker catback on both the LS1 cars I've had and have no complaints. +1 on the cutout though, when I want a good classic muscle car sound I leave the cutout closed, when I want an eargasm I leave it open

You should also check out some youtube clips. Just search LS1 catback or LS1 and whatever brand name you're interested in.

Awesome, thanks for all the input guys! My neighbor down the street has a v6 mustang with some kind of louder cat-back system, but I'm sure whatever i choose will shut him up lolsmiley

The LM1 muffler is basically a strait expansion pipe. Lots of sound, lots of rasp. In my opinion, too much for a DD. The LM2 muffler isn't a lot more but does tone it down to a tolerable level. It is a good choice to get the same kind of sound, just a bit less, at a liveable level for a DD.

I had the Loud Mouth II with the stock manifolds. I personally loved how that sounded. Not too much rasp either.

LM1=drone. if you can get it cheap, then cut out the resonator and put in a bullet muffler.

I'm biased toward Magnaflow. Had a stainless cat and muffler on my previous car and was hooked. Helped install a Magnaflow catback on a fellow member's Firehawk and that turned out great. Also installed a Magnaflow catback on a customer's '13 Mustang GT. Another happy customer.

If my GTO didn't already have the LM1, I'd have installed a Magnaflow catback on it.

I wish i could try each one before hand, sadly thats not an option... I think I'm going to go with the lm1 though. Is installation pretty easy if i just have a set of ramps, or should i just take it to a shop???

Prob better off at a shop. You will have to get it high enough to crawl all the way under. I took mine to a shop. They had to fab up a piece to get the factory Y to merge into the LM1. They did a really good job, though, cause when I did LT's and an offroad Y, it all just sanpped together. You should be able to get a quote from them before they do the work, and then decide. Also, you will want to get your car retuned. I saw a loss in MPG after I did my catback. From 26-27 highway to 22.5. I verified this numerous times. Mail order tune from tunedbyfrost.com will set you back about 200 total.

How loud do you want it?

If monster loud is what your looking for, Go longtubes, high flow cats (if you want cats) than catback. It'll cost way more but I've heard its worth it.
If you don't want that, like everyone else is saying a cutout would be a great option, right after the cats I think is where they put it.
If you dont want that, I have a borla adjustable catback on mine. Its great because its adjustable! Not extremely loud, but you will be heard.

My setup is probably the biggest eargasm i've ever had from an LS1. QTP Long tubes, custom fabbed y with magnaflow stainless cats and into a magnaflow cat back with the quad resonator tips. VERY quiet at idle and if i really try hard i can sneak up on someone. get it up to 2k and beyond and it's just a pure smooth loud exotic tone. I had the cat back on long before any work on the y or the long tubes. I went to the magnaflow from a flowmaster and it was no comparison. night and day difference. IMO you simply can NOT go wrong with magnaflow on an LS.
