Best place to put cut outs?
Where is the best place to put cut outs? I have shorty headers and a cat back exhaust. Thanks

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
I would aim to have it somewhere on the exhaust.
Under the passenger rear seat. Right before the catback but after the y-pipe.

I put it on my spoiler on my last car and it added about 33 RWHP.

You would need to buy a pair of them if you want to go the Y-pipe route. Thats the way I prefer to do it,,,,should be more beneficial,,,and makes more noise too.
But most here will install just one somewhere along the single pipe after the Y.

one of the side benefits of having it in the I-pipe is that puts it right under the rear passenger seat and there's a rubber grommet right above that position. If you ever go with an electric cutout it makes it nice to run the wires into the cabin.

how does it sound with just one is it the same sound as two? I don't want to put one on and have it sound half as good. I am Running a 402 with tfs 235 and hooker super comp 1 7/8 headers with 3" off road y should i put it before or after the y.

With a motor that stout I would want to run a pair of them.
Problem on the 4th gens though as some may have mentioned is ground clearance and packaging. Just not alot of floor room under there. It's real tricky. If the car is lowered it's a real problem.
As Orion mentioned, running the wires are easy over by the passenger seat if you run a single in that area,,,and probably easier to package as it's closer to the trans tunnel.
When I run a pair of them I run the wires up through the shifter boot, which is in the area I want to mount the switch anyway. I don't like cutting holes in my cars so I'm like Orion,,,always looking for a simple way to sneak stuff through.

Just something interesting,,,,in the drag race section Rel3rd ran the snot out of his car,,,again,,,,and found some interesting things,,one of which is his car, which is no slouch,,runs the same through the factory SLP dual dual exhaust as it does with his cutout open.
What I'm not sure is whether he has one cutout or two of them.
But it shows that even at his power level his exhaust system is doing a great job.
Now if you wanna make noise thats different

i welded my cutouts on my y-pipe similar to the one in the pic above. extremely loud on the inside and everything shakes but it sounds good. plus i don't open my cutouts unless i'm racing so when they are closed its like stock. it felt like i had a good amount of gain from putting the cutouts there
