10hp is fair. Earlier slp as well as most others models rubbed the hood on the SS, the blackwing doesn't rub but good luck finding one for less then $300. In 09 SLP redesigned there lid so it wouldn't rub. Any SS owners buy an 09 or later SLP lid can confirm this?

I bought an SLP lid in 2007 and it does not rub the SS hood. I had to dremel it a bit to enlarge the hole for the MAF, but otherwise it fits fine.

haha, its all good man. I made the same mistake when I first did the lid on the ss. Ur just lucky to have such a bad ass ls1 friend like me. lol

Now for the thread... pretty much every lid will give u similar numbers but all lids are not created equal when it come to quality. Ive found slp and mti to be the best to get for fitment, quality and hp. I hate to say it cause they are a sponsor of the site but stay away from the fast toys lid, its pretty much a pos and cracks under stress. Good luck!

What do you guys mean "behind" the lower box? It looks like it fits on top of it around the outside of it. I don't see how it could go inside.

If I remember right the Blackwing was only offered on the 2002 Hawks and then not all got Blackwing Lids. The first 02's did not get the Blackwing. I learned that sometime in 03 or 04 they announced that the Donaldson free flow paper filter was being discontinued so I bought a case of them. I most likely will never use them all, but better to have one when needed, than to need one and not have it.

I remember SLP stating there was a 10 or 15 MPH gain using the Blackwing lid with the Donaldson paper filter. Hey it came with the car and I haven't heard anything negative about the lid. But I am pretty sure it is better than any sticker ya can buy...
